Custom a/c delete
Hey all, I have been working on my a/c delete for a bit now. I have been trying to make it look as factory as possible. Here is a factory pic I got offline.

Re: Custom a/c delete
i don't have any proof that they are the same, but an S10 non AC heater box looks an awful lot like the factory non AC box in my car... hell, the whole heater's probably the same...

holes don't line up..from what I have looked at.
seems the bottom on s10's heater box is longer/hangs down more.

Re: Custom a/c delete
Mine is actually the factory a/c box, just cut, plated, and fiberglassed. I used some abs plastic I had from a old donor 85 iroc. I will try to get some more pics up later.

Re: Custom a/c delete
I did the same with mine and just cut/fiberglassed the factory box. It's not pretty but I needed something custom to allow a 4" turbo downpipe.

Re: Custom a/c delete
So you actually want to get rid of your A/C ?
Sorry, it's over 100 degrees in Dallas today and I'd prefer even bad A/C to no A/C
I guess it's each to their own. good Luck with your project.

Re: Custom a/c delete
The reason I am deleting my a/c box isn't because I'm crazy or want to save weight or because of aliens or anything, the reason is simply because when I bought the car all the wiring and a/c stuff was gone. The tuned port was gone ect. Had to do a full rewire pretty much. So instead of leaving the ugly box with cut lines sticking out I did this instead

Re: Custom a/c delete
I understand where you're coming from on that but I guess I'd look at the challenge a little differently and try to put it back together the way that it originally was and get it working.
But hey, if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.
Good luck with it!

Re: Custom a/c delete
When I got my car the previous owner rid n broke half of the lines and wires for the a/c. I am going to delete my a/c box also. I was looking at it and would you think that welding a small box to instead of the original a/c box would work? My car is black and I'd think if it was painted black it'd look like factory. But I also want to take into consideration that eventually I plan on twin turboing it. Any sugguestions on what'd be the best route to go?

Re: Custom a/c delete
I like the challenge of stripping all the junk the factory installed. Wires, hoses and clutter makes me nauseous :P
I miss the days when A/C was an option. Along with Power windows, locks, mirrors, radios, etc. Just not something that I'd ever want on a true sports car. Save all that for a daily people carrier. Not that it matters but that's my opinion. LOL!
here's how i built mine.

I used a foam block to make the mold. the foam i used melted a little from the resin, hence why it's so oddly shaped.

I filled in the dips with gold plastic filler and smoothed and primed.

The cool thing about using the A/C box an making your own extension is you can use the OE fan motor, OE A/C controls, and resistor. All of which has to be changed if you used the OE non A/C metal box.
