Need help on custom SFC!

I have a 91 Camaro z28, and I was thinking of fabricating my own SFC. I could save alot of money by building it myself. I plan on building a weld-in style sfc. I want to be able to clear the stock exhaust. Has anyone else designed their own? Please upload pictures so i can get an idea of what it'll look like. Any adivce is appreciated!

Re: Need help on custom SFC!

unless you have a source of free steel you're not going to save much money. The cheaper sFC are not that expensive and by the time you buy steel, cut it, fit it up, add in gas, wire... I doubt that you're going to be ahead much if at all.

If you have a specific need (funky exhaust, weird suspension/drivetrain...) or something else that makes available designs non-starters, I wouldn't bother. I could easily make my own and I didn't bother... they wouldn't save me any time/gain me any clearance over buying something.

Completely agree. Made my own because of exhaust. Figure in time, materials, poedercoat and buying would be cheaper.

Re: Need help on custom SFC!

My question was if anyone else had made their own, NOT whether it was a feasible alternative to buying a set of SFCs. I have a free source of steel I can use, and a welder and a plasma cutter I am borrowing from a friend. I don't have a lot of money, but I do have time.

So in this case, yes it will be cheaper to build my own. Appreciate the input though.

I posted a drawing with dimensions in another sfc thread. Do a search

Re: Need help on custom SFC!

I built my own because I needed a crossmember mount for a 4l80e trans. Already had the steel, tools and time. In hindsight, if an aftermarket company built a set like it, I would have bought them instead of my free DIY set
