Re: Engine oil choice....
i use royal purple 1030 synthetic. I dont run less than a 1030 unless it is in a newer car that calls for less. the new cars have aluminum blocks with tighter clearances so the thinner oil is needed. and your oil pressure may be fine but is the engine really being lubricated the way it should be.

Re: Engine oil choice....
Don't be misled by the 0W30 viscosity rating. It just means that the oil is like #30 at running temperature and like #0 (whatever that means) at zero degrees for easier cranking and oil flow. It has a shallower viscosity curve than 10W30, which means it's actually thicker than 10W30 when you're overheating.

Re: Engine oil choice....
How else do you keep together a 385ci gen1 SBC @ 6700rpm??? No really big clearances need thick oil, especially @ high, sustained rpm. That ain't no drag car....

Re: Engine oil choice....
I recently switched to Amsoil Z-Rod 10w30 and I noticed a decrease in "cam chatter" after doing so.

Yeah that's what I meant lol. Half asleep. That faint and mellow, "plink plink plink plink plink..." you hear when the engine is idling.

Better double check, EPA has made them remove all the good stuff from oil, even diesel oil.

Why the rash of "break in" oils as they are a loop hole to the law, as they assume your only gonna use it once

Trust me I have as per my last communication with Shell on June 27th this year they are still at a minimum of 1200ppm ZDDP in rotella T triple protection.

Not as awesome as before but still well above regular motor oil and good for flat tappet cams.

It is actually Rotella T triple protection it is designed to meet CJ and CI requirements and has 1200ppm zddp at least according to the email i got from shell. I use the 10w-30 but it also comes in 15w-40
