1 piece versus 2 piece rear mains and roller blocks
Chevrolet changed the design of their blocks in 1986 to a 1 piece rear main seal style block. This block uses a different crank than the older 2 piece rear main blocks. The flexplates, flywheels and cranks are not interchangeable between the different styles of blocks.
These blocks also have the dipstick located on the opposite side of the motor.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe the roller blocks started in 87. This made the 86 block a one of a kind.

Nope. One piece rear main seals in 1986, and roller engines in 1987.
