1990 GTA 305 TPI T-Top
I am helping my brothers widow sell his 1990 GTA, 305 TPI 5 speed. T-Top, Black on Black. Price has been updated to $8950 OBO, where it should have been priced in the beginning. He had just replaced the tires, clutch and replaced the AC compressor. This is a California car and has lived it's life on the west coast. Has 105139.0 on the odometer.

Re: 1990 GTA 305 TPI T-Top
That car will never sell for anything even in the ball park of that price. Tired paint, tired interior, looks like it's been sitting a while, average mileage, and that's just from the pics. If that car is turn key drive across the country status, but needs the cosmetics taken care of, then take $10K off the price and start there

Thanks for the positive remarks RKeats, as it reads OBO and will be sold as it sits. It was priced based on some limited research that has been completed and a few members on this site. As I said I am helping my sister in law sell it, she is not trying to make a killing on it. She would like the car to go to someone that will love it as much as my brother did, so It will be correctly priced for that person. Thank you

I'm not trying to be a goon, it's a 5 speed GTA, I love it. I also understand that it isn't your car, and based on your join date and name, you aren't really a Third Gen guy, so questionable pricing is fairly understandable. That said if you let someone who isn't overly knowledgeable with these pay you anything north of $10K for this car, especially because "they love it", you're a crook.

Great options and colors, but condition and miles are not anywhere near where they need to be in order to ask $18K when you can buy GTAs with half those miles that need next to nothing for under $10K. I understand being sentimental about the car, but you're going to get nothing but comments like these when you ask more than double what it's worth.
Good luck with your sale nonetheless -- I genuinely hope you get $18K for it, prices on 3rd gen T/As are nowhere near where they should be, at least compared to IROCs.

At that price regardless of obo not many will put in any effort into looking at the car. You have to price it more realistically or your gonna miss a lot of sales.

Re: 1990 GTA 305 TPI T-Top
I have some questions...
How does the car run? any mechanical-electrical issues?
I can see it needs paint, and the interior needs some TLC... but what else does it/will it need?
Thanks!

Thanks navy02ws6,
I appreciate your rational advice. I will talk to her about your comments and the price and see if she has more details about the car, the $18k obo was just a number to start. I remember he talked some options that gave it a lower production value, not that it will change the price, but to be accurate in the description. I'll update when I get more info, Thank you

I have only driven it a few times, ran great, engine sounds clean and strong. For sure the paint and interior need the most TLC. I'll ask my sister in law about the last times they drove it, they would take it out all the time for road trips. Thanks

I have the exact same car; year, drive-train,options and color scheme. That being said, I could see you asking that much if the car were completely flawless, but it needs some work to get it to that point (paint, weather stripping, interior, etc). Mileage means nothing to the hobbyist if the vehicle has been well maintained. The car is not really a collectible, so the same of course could not be said for the collector. Not to mention, for that kind of money you need to post pics of the underside, as well as the inside of the rear quarter panels. In the end, if the car were flawless you would get that much because I myself would pay that much, especially if I totaled mine. It depends on the buyer, and how bad they want the particular car...

Love the car. Maybe one of my favorite combinations TPI 5spd GTA Leather.. Id love to have it to drive daily and fix up along the way. Its too bad you are a half a country away or id make an offer. In saying that I think throwing a realistic price out there would get people looking at it and considering the car. That astronomical price will scare most away. Its probably a 5-6k car at most and I hope it brings a decent price because it is an awesome car. GLWS

Not a bad car, I've been long looking for one with the 5 spd that's not red. I'm in FL so it would cost me probably $1500-$2000 to ship it. But that price you are asking is more for a "survivor" car with low miles (e.g. 25,000) in excellent condition. I wouldn't want to low ball you but realistic is more like $6000-$8000. Obviously someone in Cali who is close would be able to pay more. When I find the one I'm looking for, I'll keep it til I die. It's my retirement gift to myself - had a 1986 Sapphire/Silver 5 spd in my Navy days........Keep me in the back of your mind though when the owner is more realistic on price.

I talked to her this morning and asked her to send me the build sheet and any information that would identify the options etc, she thinks this is a California car. They had just changed the clutch, tires and replaced the AC. I'll updated this tonight with that information and change to a more realistic price. Thanks

Good morning,
I saw your updates. First, when I reread your original post, I realized the word "widow" appeared which means you lost your brother. I am sorry for your loss and wanted above all else to extend my condolences. I was a SWO in the Navy in the 80s, USS Bagley in San Diego, then USS Yorktown, Norfolk. I miss those days. The $9500 honestly seems high for a car in fair condition, but more realistic than the original $18K. Right now (maybe not in a couple of months when I retire and cash out all my vacation time) $9500 + shipping + costs of registering in FL, + tax just pushes me up too high. That's why I said someone in Cali might be willing to pay more. It's hard to get a valuation for a car this old, without going thru the expense of an actual appraisal. I tried Hagerty's tool, and came up with about $7400 fair market value, but the tool doesn't factor miles, options, etc. I do have one question though.....who's name is on the title? If it was solely in your brother's name I would think your sister-in-law could retitle in her name as surviving spouse. That would be important towards any sale. If you want to, take a look at my posting under "Cars Wanted" (Firebird)...I have a pic of me as an Ensign in 1986 next to my TA. This thread is getting hard to navigate but if you want, you can contact me directly at sklearman@bellsouth.net Thanks in advance, Stu Klearman

Thank you, it was not expected. We had just lost out Mom a few days before that and I can't help think it may have been a contributing factor. Thank for the question about the title, she said that was work out. Thank you again for your condolences. Mark

The title is his or her name, so no issues there. The car is at my house now, I’ll be able check it and it will be easier to show. I drove it about 100 miles today to check it, ran great. Not sure my GTO likes sharing space with it though.

After I sold my 73 Trans Am and wrecked my 66 GTO, I bought the 64. Bought it 1980, third owner, numbers matching, all original. Fun to drive, no power steering or power brakes.

I didn't even realize the widow part, I'm sorry about both losses, I can't even imagine being able to look at this car after going through that. The price is still a bit high but you'll definitely get a lot more interest and solid offers, especially knowing that she drives as she should.
x2 on the GTO part. I'd trade basically any of my belongings for a real one, especially a 64'.

I paid $500 for the GTO, I can't even take it to the gas station without someone wanting to look or ask questions, a few even asked if they could drive it (LOL Really). I'll tell my wife to get in touch with you if I fall over one day, she hates the car because it smells like gas and she can't drive it with no power anything and a M22 rock crusher. All the better.

I can see your GTO staring the TA down!!! Is there anything not working on the car? AC/Heat, wipers, washers, turn signal, lights, etc? Any leaking of oil, other fluids? I backed away from the perfect 87 in Jan. It was the sapphire blue on silver, 5 spd I wanted but the dealer was a dirty rotten scoundrel. They put a "passed inspection" (PA) decal on it but nothing worked...lights, signals, horn, nothing. Plus the undercarriage was heavily cancered out. I paid Carchex a little money to do a pre-purchase inspection and saved myself from a bad mistake!!
Any dents, body damage?

It has a door ding on left rear quarter, the drivers head light decides when it wants to open. My brother was trying to fight that battle when he lost his. It's not a perfect car, but it's a great car, besides what would you work on if it was in perfect shape. I just shot a walk around video with a cold start if you want to see it, and yes it started up like a champ.
