82/83 solid T/A wanted
82/83 solid T/A wanted
Hi there,
I came to this board because i am looking for a 82 (or 83) trans am.
The love for this car is big since i was a little boy. I now that i have grown up (at least a little for a 33yr old) and really being into cars, i just can't get rid of it! I guess that's because of i always see it on tv when zapping
So i want one. And if i could order a new one i'd like that knight rider setup:
Black
T-Tops
Turbocast rims 15"
Tan interior
PMD's
V8
Power-everything
No crappy blingbling s**t - just stock!
Well, i guess i'm not the only one...
What i don't like is rust, so i am looking for a solid car where i do not have to do much intensive bodywork. I don't care about the paint because i'd rather take a car with bad paint than not knowing whats underneath. And i might foil the car black anyways. but i don't want to take care of holes in the doors or floorpans, rusty t-tops, serious mechanical problems or worse...
So if there is a car out there for me (or one coming close to my wish), please let me know and send me a PM. I promise to give it a good new home. No winter, no snow, no salty roads and no rain. And my 68 mustang wouldn't feel that alone in the garage anymore...
I'll keep checking the forsale-section every day, but if someone hears sth or knows somebody who knows somebody...
Thanks a lot,
Nils

Re: 82/83 solid T/A wanted
thank you for your opinion.
i am just afraid that if i do not get one RIGHT NOW - my chances are gone forever
i hope i am wrong...
what i want to do is a light knight rider replica, so i´d get the sets, the wheels, the tan interior and the black color anymays. but i´d prefer to get a car where i only have to exchange seats plus the frontbumper. so i can build it back easily to the original setup. BUT i live in germany and i have to import all that stuff or try to get it here (yeah!) - thats expensive too!
so, please tell me what you think about offers like this one, i found on auto-trader:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=90210&endYear=1984&modelCode1=FBIRD&showcaseOwnerId=0&startYear=1982&makeCode1=PONT&searchRadius=0&mmt=[PONT[FBIRD[]][]]&listingId=363717669&Log=0
car looks great, has everything but those pmd-seats. is this IT? or do i not have to worry because these are rare but for 10k no problem to get?
If i´d find a real solid and maintenaced car, with no major issues, that i have to get tan interior, wheels, hubcaps and a good paintjob for, i easily spent another 5-7 grand. getting the right one from the beginning seems to be a good option for me. too bad this one is a 84 and i do not know if that is 30 years old by today (if built in august, it´s 29.5 yrs). because if it´s not i´d have to pay a lot of taxes to get it into europe and to drive it. but as a classic car - no problem.
best,
nils

Yeah... Old cars
i have a 68 mustang already. Bought it 4 years ago and have it shipped to germany where we did a nice restauration. Shipping is not too expensive. We just got a 65 chevy truck for my best friend and shipping is about 1800$ for transport from fresno to LA and seafreight.
I know about that kitt-conversion but i need a car 30yrs+ so i can benefit from our classic-car-regulations. My mustang would be about 1,650.-$ tax only for the 289cui engine - now with the historical-registration i only pay 265.-$ a year. And importing saves 20% taxes on the car plus all shipping-costs. So a 84 is max in 2014.
I alread talked to the seller of the trans am and sent dome highquality pics. Car looks more than great, everything is in very good condition and its all original.
But this won't be the only car like this around in the next 2 years for a price like this?

10k for a car with 136,000 is overpriced. If you are patient you will find one with lower mileage. A few months ago, I was looking for a blk/gold also and found several prospects with in the 20-30k mileage range. They were priced around the same. Both were 1983 cars without the PMD's and turbocast wheels, but much less wear on the chassis. You could always add rims and seats. You are better off starting with a lower mileage car. It will still need things, but much less than a higher mileage car.
I could only find one of the previous listings I was referring too.

Re: 82/83 solid T/A wanted
that's a rare car, i know i've been looking for an 82 trans am like the recaro but with standard interior and pmd seats for years, its very rare and hard to find what your looking for in that condition and with all the power options, and unless you have 10000 to 15000 to spend towards the car your looking for as that is what it'll cost then your better off just finding the best 82 or 83 trans am you can in good condition with a few issues and a few options that needs some work, thats what i did but i got an 82 camaro z28 for 3500, its not perfect but its a solid daily driver with some issues but nothing major other then some interior issues as its the original 32 year old interior so hats to be expected, so i suggest you look for something much less then what your after with as few options as possible and in good condition that has some issues but nothing major that's solid for 5000 or so, and not jump on the rare band wagon and try and get a recaro trans am look alike with standard interior with pmd seats, but hey if you got 10000 or 15000 to spend then you'll have no issue finding what your looking for, but if you don't like i did and only have like 5000 or so to spend then you'll need to really limit your options, but i feel your pain, i was the same way a few years ago wanting to get the most rare early third gen i could get it cause i am a knight rider fan and i've always wanted the kitt car, its just not realistic to go strait for the rare cars unless you got big bucks to spend on it, but good luck none the less, i hope you find what your looking for, anyways thanks and peace
Been specializing in these cars for 10+ years and you took the words out of my mouth !!!
That's a RARE car to find !!!!!!!

Hmm - wonder what my Recaro is worth? Not for sale, but it is nice to know that there is finally some interest in the third gens.

Re: 82/83 solid T/A wanted
As the owner of an all original WS7-82 TA with 24K actual miles and an all original WS6-86 TA with 30K actual miles there are a few things that you might consider. The 82 with its four barrel carb is a cold natured beast, and can be aggravating compared to an EFI car. The 86 is a TPI car, and it has much improved manners compared to the 82. Some people building Knightrider replicas are using later model cars like a 86-89 Formula. Once you get the OE parts off and install the Knightrider stuff the car will look like the 82 KR. Get a set of PMD seats, have them recovered and no one will know that it is not an 82. This opens up more possibilities of finding a nice example, and you get the advantages of the later engines with fuel injection. Pictures can make a turd look nice. Either plan to go and check out potential cars yourself, or hire a reputable dealer to obtain one for you. I have gone on many wild goose chases looking at what was supposed to be a pristine original low mileage car, only to find a piece of junk with shiny paint.
Re: 82/83 solid T/A wanted
Yeah these really seem to be rare...
The thing is that i am not sure about that knight rider conversion. And is has to be 30+ years old because of the inport regulations for classic cars over here in europe. So i need papers that make it old enough...
And i do not need an injection engine
sure, the newer cars might be improved models but i like the original...
