If these spindles were to accept our OEM brakes, or the owner built LS1/C5 setup I for one would be in for a set. I have good brakes now, but to have to buy a completely new brake setup at $800.00 to $1200.00 to match the dropped spindle, plus the $50.00 to accept the OEM Steering, is more than I would spend on them. I am sure that if they made them to their custom brake specs in the first place they could make them to incorporate our OEM/C5/LS1/1LE brakes also, then they would probably sell 35 to 50 sets quick enough.
In the past here on TGO we have made several group purchases. Mostly we had a list of who was interested, and when the product/price was set, we would order them individually. I think it was last year, or so, a group purchase was for a rear girdle for the 9bolt Borg Warner Axle. Through the group purchase we ordered 100 of them. When they were ready every body ordered their own. When all was finished they sold 133 sets, and still may be selling them. The main point here is that a group purchase is very hard to organize, as one individual may purchase their part today, and another may purchase their part two weeks later because they were out of town, etc.
We could make a new list to see who would be interested in what type of spindle. My opinion says that their may be three or four on the list for the fabricated spindle that uses the their brake set up, and thirty or more that would use the OEM brake type of spindle. If we did get a list together to purchase the OEM type at the thirty quantity mark, would they then make them to those specs? I tried to contact Anthony Jones on Saturday but the shop was closed. I will get into contact with him to see if he could make a set of Dropped Spindles to accept our OEM steering and our brake setups - Maybe it's possible for him to do this, we will see.
All of the above is just my 2cents worth...~Ed~

I just hung up the phone with Anthony Jones of AJE Racing. I am going to send engineering drawings/specs of the 1LE modified spindles. These spindles will allow the use of OEM steering, and our brake modifications ( LS1, C5, or OEM, etc.). Anthony is telling me if we can garner enough interest he will make them. The spindles actually will be a 1.8" Drop, and will hold to our original steering geometry. Another note; they will be able to use the OEM struts with supplied adaptors, or many of the aftermarket adjustables...great news.
So who's in for a set of Affordable Dropped Spindles. If we can get twenty or more on a list they will/can be priced arond the $340, and without the pricy aftermarket brakes.
Are we having pfunn yet? ~Ed~

Since I was #1 on the list for the original belltech group purchase, I'll be #1 for this group purchase if anyone is interested. I like the fact that we will be able to use aftermarket struts if we want to but still be able to use the factory style struts! Thanks Ed, for all of your professionalism with all of your dealings with these companies. It shows that we are very serious buyers & serious third gen enthusiasts!

I would definitely be in for a set of spindles if it meets all those requirements.

Well yes it is going someplace - We have found a source of Dropped Spindles that will handle the OEM, 1LE, LS1, and C5 Brakes. They will also use our standard steering components. So this is a great step forward. Tell every one you know of to let us know if they want the Dropped Spindles, so we can know how many to order. I will start this coming weekend to go over the old lists, and recontact them, to then make a fresh new list. ~Ed~

Looks good.
When the spindel goes bad. It doesn't look like you can take them out.
Pushing the envelope. I wonder if you could replace the spindel to a hub (ie C4, C5 or 4th gen)

I'm assuming you are meaning the bearing mount spindle it's self, and not the whole spindle as a forged one piece, or welded assembly.
Over many years (to many to mention here, ha ha) I have never heard of the bearing mount spindle going bad. Most of the time it's the wheel bearings that will go first because of non support centered wheels. These wheel bearings will get so noisy when going out most of your neighbors will insist you replace them for disturbing the peace. I guess if one left them for so long that they finally went crunch, that might take out the bearing mount. Otherwise you would have to just break them off because the bearings spin on their own races, and do not spin on the bearing mount - That is static.
On the second part of the question: The thirg gen spindle is what is there, and other than that one could have custom C4, C5 or 4th gen spindles made. By the time one would do this though the cost per. would more than triple over just modding. a third gen disk into a hub.
I hope this helps, Ed.

OK, now is the time to get the word out on buying Dropped Spindles (1.8" drop) that will accept the OEM, LS1, C5, and coming up the C6 braking systems.
We have a manufacturer who will supply them to us at a reasonable price ($340.00, or maybe down to $325.00)if we can get enough members who want them...

I guess I would but the fabricated ones if the were $325 or less. And what is this about an adaptor for the struts?

I thought a new list was started. I'm not able to do the dropped spindles at this time. Please take me off of the list.

In 2002, last date of production, they were $259.95.
We will soon know what the time window for sales will be. Not to far off, so save up...
Our list has met the 50 pair mark - Hurray!

These (AJE Welded Assembly) are the only dropped spindles available for our Third Gen's. Bell Tech spindles are totally not available, unless one can find them used. We need to refine every thing with Anthony there at AJE (Some Questions yet), before they will be in production. This may be very soon - next few weeks maybe. We have about 50 on the list of purchasers, so this should get the prices within a lower range. A few more things to be worked out then we can be on our way with Dropped Spindles.
Stay tuned - Ed.

I read in one of the responses her about using an adaptor to run struts. I really would like to know what this means. Does that mean more money too?

You can add me to your list provided they accept the factory steering, and I run the Baer Track kit so it has to work with my brakes.

Ed,
Depending on the particulares, I may still be in this. There are a lot of questions I still worry about with fitment at design, and cost, etc. I would be a maybe right now, depending on what the final design looks like, the final pricing, and the timeline (I have ot make sure i have money when they are available). Its hard to commit to something, when you are not sure if it will work with your brakes, or furture plans, and when you are unsure of the pricing and timing.

All things will be ironed out, and we will know all about them before any purchases. So far we know that the standard struts will fit with no modificatioins, and if the coilovers go to the same mount they will work also. Because the stock/OEM/Standard steering has such a long arm the new spindles will require an adaptor for our steering. Without the steering adaptor they will accept a couple of different rack & pinion systems. Because these have been in the past manufactured for heavy duty racing applications they will have greater strength than our stock cast spindles. As far as the spindles fitting all the different braking systems out there, this we do not know. What we will know is which braking systems they will fit, and it will be up to the individual to know if it will fit their system, if other than the systems listed.
I myself have been waiting a long time, and searching a long time for dopped spindles that will fit our cars. I'm hoping that they are just around the corner...~Ed~

Earlier on I think I mentioned that there was an adaptor required for the struts - This is not the case - All struts that fit the original OEM spindles will fit these spindles. It was my mistake to have written that...~Ed~

= 49 ...A couple off the list and another added.
As we go probably a few more will be added.
Earlier on I think I mentioned that there was an adaptor required for the struts - This is not the case - All struts that fit the original OEM spindles will fit these spindles. It was my mistake to have written that...~Ed~

Anthony ( AJE Racing) and I are patiently playing phone tag as I'm here on the west coast and he's far east, er out there somewhere, as we are in totally different time zones (like 3 hours). We have decided to iron out all of the questions that many of us are asking, over the next few days. So far so good, and all is looking up. We will try to get all things answered as soon as possible. ~Ed~

I still need to get with Anthony Jones about the bolt holes/Spacing. We have a few on the boards here that would like to have their original brakes...Most of us want the LS1/C5/C6 bolt spacing, I have mentioned this, and he is aware of it. We will see maybe we can have a few with the original spacing, and the rest with the 1LE type modification that will use the LS1 thru. C6, etc. brackets. It's been a long quest, but it's finally coming together. ~Ed~

Hello Boilermaker,
Are you on the list to get a set? We could add your name if you wish...

I'll let you know soon, but I'm not on yet. I have to prioritize some college expenses first. Unfortunately purdue doesn't just hand out M.E. degrees for free.

IF THERE IS ROOM....? What?
Did not follow your point there...
CAN WE MAKE IT A LS1 HUB... CAN U SAY FLOATING ROTORS WITH NO CUSTOM HUB....
MAKE THE SPINDLES WITH THE 4 BOLT HOLES FOR A HUB AND WE CAN PUT ARE NEW HUB'S IN.... IT WILL DROP THE COST OF THE SPINDLES AND COST THE SAME (OR A LITTLE MORE) FOR A LS1 BRAKE SWAP.
Did not follow your point there...
