Holy smokes!

I've got to admit, I was pretty skeptical at first that this thing would ever take off, but man, this looks like a done deal. It's almost guarentee'd, that not only will we hit 10 orders, but if all those who sayed they were committed, actually come up with the money, we'll even SURPASS the 10 order minimum and then some!

I just got an email from FastToys letting me know they've already received 8 orders. That's the official count as of 09/07/06.

Only 2 more to go.

Demon355's order is a sure thing for next Thursday, which means we'll only need 1 more by then.

For those of you who haven't placed your order yet, are you still interested? Or have you changed your minds?

No pressure, just curious.....

That’s rocking news LT1FUN. I’m with you, I bet we’ll surpass the minumum 10 order limit. Be sweet to know the finial count when it’s all said and done.

Alright guy's, who's going to be the last person to order before Demon355?

He'll be placing his order next Thursday for sure, so that will bring us up to 9 confirmed orders.

Between now and then we'll need one more person atleast to make this happen.

It's basically the weekend already and come Monday, we have only 4 days to go.

I repeat, come Monday, we'll only have 4 extra days to place our orders.

There are 3 other members who've shown interest in these runners, but we haven't heard from them in a while.

Are you guy's still interested?

I say you post this on as many forums as you can. Even if you grab someone from another site that doesnt leave anyone here out. Theyll still get the discount even if the #11 or higher. We just need to get to 10 to get the discount. I say the bigger the GP now maybe the better for the furture. My 2 cents...

What day will fast toys process our order, granted we reach the 10? Will it be the 14th or 15th?

End of the day 15th, is when the deal ends, So I'm thinking right around the time they close which would probably be around five o'clock. Don't quote me on that or anything but regardless of whether it's 5pm or up until 11:59pm, Friday is still the last day.

I've already posted G.P. on just about every forum I'm a member of. It's limited though because this site is just about the only major 3rd gen site on the net. Most other Fbody forums are strictly 4th gen Camaro/Firebirds and the few members that do have third gen's, are probably already a member of this forum and have probably already seen the thread anyways.

Other forums are really strict about their G.P. guidlines and only allow you to post a discount/sale from a company that's one of their "supporting advertsers", which means I can't post anything about FastToy's on their forum.

I had a couple people say they were interested but none have gotton back to me or responded to my email's.

It's as if they dropped off the face of the earth. I can't even get a hold of 'em so I think it's pretty safe to assume they're not in.

I've done all I can do. The only people that can make this deal go through now, are members of thirdgen.org.

Yeah that would really suck!! It suck when others ruin your fun. I mean I hope all who said they were in do order. Im still waiting on conformation from fast toys. Should hear something Monday. If I dont Im going to call them. I really hope this goes through. Im probably not even going to put mine on right away until I do some other mods first. But for the price I cant not buy them. I wish I knew someone near me w/ a 3rd gen so I could tell them about this.

Hey idea...Maybe we could PM some of the new members who have just joined in the past few days? They may not be aware of this GP going on? What you think?

Sure, that might work but I wouldn't want people to think we're trying to force this deal down their throats or anything

That's why I haven't PM'd anybody demanding answers why they haven't placed their orders yet. I don't want people to get annoyed or feel pressured or anything.

I'm affraid at this point, all we can do is sit and wait to see what happens. We've already started 2 threads. Gotton the word out to as many other forums as we could and discussed the issue to death.

All we can do is hope for the best, that, and to keep this thread alive and hope someone new sees it and wants in.

1 more order before Demon355's. That's all we need. Just one measly order. We're so close.....

Hey everyone, I just signed up on the board, but have been watching this thread for a few days now. I am about 90% sure I will get in on this, but it will be late next week before I place an order. Any more info on the tpis bigmouth intake base gp?

The deadline would most likely be next friday so hopefully you can decide before then. We only need 1 more to be able to get the GP. What will it take to convince you?

The base is probably the best choice for an aftermarket piece. It's originally made by Edelbrock (they supply all the companies) and then modified by TPIS. If there was a base out there that I would get, it would be the TPIS one.

Let me be the first to say welcome to the boards ramos87ss, I'm sure you'll love this forum. It's a forum every third gen owner should be a part of because it contains a weath of information on just about everthing that has to do with our cars. You'll learn a lot on here. Trust me.

When you say "late" next week, how would you define late? Wednesday? Thursday?

Friday is the deadline and I think so long as you place an order (if you decide to place an order that is) before 5pm (typical retail closing hours) I don't see why that would be a problem.

I will add your name to the list of of people interested in getting in on the G.P. and hope to hear you're able to place an order.

As far as the TPIS "big mouth" base group purchase, that's still up in the air. Getting these G.P's started is a bit time consuming. Lot's of emails have to be sent to various companies trying to get them to agree to do the G.P in the first place. Starting threads in different forums to get the word out. Keeping track of who's interested and who's not. Who've actually placed their orders, updating the #'s, Receiving and responding to PM's from members wanting more information about the product etc. etc. etc.

It's not exactly something you can start in 2 minutes and then walk away from.....

I would be willing to start another G.P. on the base, but that depends ENTIRELY on the results of THIS G.P.

If this doesn't go through, I'm not going to spend any more of my time starting another G.P.. It would just be huge waste of time - It would be a waste of all our time, especially those who were seriously interested in getting the G.P going....

No one wants to get hyped up about something, only to find out afterwards, it won't happen.

We'll see if we get that 10th order submitted to FastToys for the runners.

If so, I'll start a G.P for the "big mouth" base or something similar.

If not, I'm not trying again, maybe if someone else wants to ......

If either one of you is pulling our chain on this, I will personally hunt you down and DESTROY you !!!

Seriously though, that is GREAT news. With Demon355 placing his order next Thursday FOR SURE 100%
that means we've made it with 1 extra order to spare !!!

We've hit the mark.

Just one thing though, make sure that on the 15th you have the available funds on your credit card, otherwise FastToy's can't charge you and you won't get your order and the G.P. is off for everybody.

Hopefully all goes well from here on out.

This is excellent news guys. Can't wait till I get the confirmation from FastToys letting me know we've officially hit ten orders....

I also have other mods to do first but like this GP if the price is right Id have to get in on it and put of the other mods till after a base GP. Thanks LT1 for all your hard work if it wasnt for you we'd still be talking about this.

My order will most likely be placed on wednesday or thursday, waiting on some funds to come in. I would be up for a gp on the base as well if something could happen with it. Like everyone else who has posted, if it took a few weeks for that to happen that would actually work out better for me too. I am just starting to piece some stuff together for a 350tpi swap into my 87 monte carlo ss and it is on somewhat of a budget, but it is hard to pass up that kind of savings on the runners.

Thanks guy's I appreciate it.

Don't give all the credit to me though, we all did this one together. Glad to see we were able to get this happening!

-----

Now, I may be getting a little ahead of myself here as this G.P. hasen't "officially" gone through yet, but there have been a number of you mentioning that you would be interested in getting together on another G.P. in the following couple weeks (October maybe?) on a TPI base, to go along with the runners we just got. I've been doing a little research. (Here we go again )

The way I see it, there really are only two options for us. The TPIS "Big Mouth" base, and the Accel/Lingenfelter "Super Ram" base.

The Lingenfelter base is the most expensive an $499 while the TPIS I have found for $425.

Both should be in the same league as one and other in terms of performance but obviously, you'd be paying a premium for the "Lingenfelter" name on the "Super Ram" base..

Regardless, I was leaning more towards the TPIS unit as it is substantially cheaper than Lingenfelters ($75 cheaper- that's a lot of cash) but after doing some research, I have found two places that sell the Lingenfelter at much less than the typical $499 asking price.

One place sells them for $399. The other for $389. That's over $100 cheaper than the standard price you usually see for these intakes (wonder why such huge price differences )

Anyways, that means it's even cheaper than the TPIS piece.

That would mean our possible options would be either the $425 'Big Mouth" or the $389 -$399 "Super-Ram"

I say "possible" options as I havenen't contacted anybody just yet. Either company may not agree to do a G.P. with us.

But just letting you guy's know, these are the two candidates we have so far. Those are the prices they would cost us without any kind of discount. Hopefully, the places selling them for that price, will agree to start a G.P. with us.

Any comments and/or suggestions about the next G.P. on an intake base, would be appreciated.

Any other intake base that interests you should also be brought up and set on the table.

Yeah I know, I wasn't going to be ordering anything else this month either. I've already blown my budget for car parts this month

No, I was thinking sometime NEXT month (October) to start something. I figured, I'd order an intake base to go along with the runners and install everthing at the same time. That way, I maximize the results of upgrading the TPI on my Z.

FastToys/AS&M said once the orders were placed for the runners, it would be 3-4 weeks until they were finished being built. If we can start another G.P in 1 month's time, (so long as the intakes are in stock) we could end up getting all our parts delivered to our doors within a few days of each other. That would be cool.

Nothing's been written in stone just yet. Just exploring the options.....

Agreed. I just figured I'd give everybody a heads up on the next possible G.P. seeing as how we're all subsrcibed to this thread and could all see what the game plan is.

When the time comes, someone can start a new thread on the new G.P. and just place a link on THIS thread, so that all who placed an order for the runners, can follow the new link to the new G.P. thread.

By the way, I've also sent out a pair of emails to the two places I saw that carry the Lingenfelter intakes.

Let us know if TPIS gets back to you.

It doesn't really matter to me which of these intakes we get. I know the TPIS unit is a top notch piece, but since I've never heard anything bad about the Lingenfelter intake (+ it's the most expensive) I would think it's atleast equal to the TPIS....

Order submitted.

I have a Big Mouth sitting in a box in front of the car waiting to be put in. Might as well save some time and put the large tubes in at the same time.

This has to be one of the best Group Purchases of all time. Not only is it a good rate, but it's from Fast Toys, which is great for Canadians (shipping costs).

Thank you to LT1Fun for getting the ball rolling and to the others who have also ordered. I'm saving over $80 on this GP.

So how many people do we have on the GP now?

I'm in for a base GP but it would have to be towards the end of October or beginning of November. I usually drive my car till November so if I was to get this base, I don't know if I could install it. Doesn't matter to me, always good to have parts for new projects.

......and out of nowhere comes yet ANOTHER order that's been submitted ....

Good stuff. Glad to hear it man.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the "Big Mouth" base from and how much did it run you?

(Order count has now been updated on page 1, to take into consideration Reid Fleming's order )

I ordered the Big Mouth from TPIS about 3-4 weeks ago. Cost was $425 US.

The head gasket went on me. Not too thrilled about that. Car only has 44,000 km on it. I figured I'd probably never do the Big Mouth normally and since I had to tear the stock one out, might as well throw it in there. I passed on the long tube runners when I bought it because a) TPIS sells them for more than the Big Mouth costs ($475 for the runners) and b) It's a lot of money to buy both pieces at once. Putting in large tube runners later on wouldn't be that hard.

But with this G.P. I'm saving a whole lotta money as well as some time.

Sure Id be up for another GP, but just like everyone else Id have to wait at least to the middle of Oct. I was acutally considering the TPIS base a an intake mod after I did some exhaust mods. I could put that off to get the Big Mouth. Ill just have to mod my car in reverse from how I wanted to do it I cant pass up the prices, seeing how Ill have to pay full price for the CAT back I want, I mind as well buy the intakes mods first at a huge discount.

As far as a CAT back. What are you all running? I was thinking about a Borla but not really to sure. What you all suggest? I guess whats the best for the price? Sorry if this takes things off topic.

Borla is crazy expensive. If you we're to go with anything, I would suggest the Hooker catback system. It's perfect for price vs flow. You could also create your own much like I'm doing. Currently, (once the car is road worthy) I'll have Hedman shorties, Hedman ypipe, 3" magnaflow cat, 3" dynomax i-pipe and (for now) my 80 series Flowmaster. I have a Dynomax Bullet waiting to go on but holding off on that. For the money I spent on my setup, it's probably half as much as that borla system or any system for that matter. Yes I got deals on most of my stuff and know a few shop owners, but you can't find a better system than the one you create for yourself/car. It also depends on what sound you like, obviously.

All in all, if you want something crazy uber loud, just put headers with no cats and turn downs before the rear. If you want something contemporary, order a Hooker/Dynomax catback system. Keep in mind also, if you are going to be swapping engines or upgrading heads/cam/intake parts, your exhaust you buy now may effect the way the new motor will perform. Keeping options open while still buying something is always a must.

Basically what I want is something that sounds good not obnoxiously loud and flows well. Since Im buying the runners and will get in on the GP for the base, w/ future mods for the intake side being 58mm TB, ported plenum, matbe an airfoil. I just want to get the right set up for the car.

Ok, well that being said, you have tons of options, lol!

But what do you have/want for headers? Keeping cat? Have you heard the Hooker catback? It all depends on you really. Since you're keeping the TPI system and not doing anything major to the engine (maybe upgraded heads down the road) this won't be a 400+whp car, so that being said, you can either go 1 5/8 headers or the 1 3/4. LT1FUN just purchased a set of SLP 1 3/4 headers and Ypipe, you can ask him what he thinks of those. They come with a price tag though. Most guys on here go for the Hooker 2055 headers. They come with they're own Ypipe to which some consider the best Y for our cars. It's debatable but certainly lives up to it's name. You can get the same headers as I did, Hedman shorty 1 5/8 primaries with a 3" collector. More than enough for me as my car won't be a serious ground pounder. Some guys will say that you NEED 1 3/4 primaries with 350's but thats not totally true. Yes they do flow more as they are bigger, but the diameter only comes into play if you are making serious power, much like 400hp. So I've been told anyway.

If you are keeping the Cat, I suggest using the Magnaflow 3" high flow. It's the best there is for quality and price.

I-pipe will vary if you get a catback system or do it yourself. If you want a catback system, which are by all means perfect if not the same as going custom, than I've suggested a few brands that will get you tons of flow for a decent price. If you are on a budget than you might want to look into buying just the I-pipe like I did. I'm using the Dynomax I-pipe. It's a full 3" all the way end to end.

For the muffler, well there are tons of choices out there. Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Hooker, Spintech, Stainless Works, Dynomax etc. When it comes to the muffler, it's all personal preference as each one has it's own sound. There are cheaper mufflers out there that you could use but you get what you pay for. If you need some comparisons, theres a thread on here in the Exhaust section with different types of exhaust systems on alot of different engine setups. It would be worth checking out...

I was thinking of getting the Hooker 2055s, failed to mention that. Im probably going to keep the CAT & get a CAT back system. What I was going to do was get the 2055s and the Hooker CAT back, w/ a good high flow CAT. I know for the exhaust Im going to probably spend between $1k & $1500. This car wont be a 400+ HP car. Will be used as a street/strip car. Its my toy basically. Something to restore, bring to the occasional car show, and run it on the track sometimes. Intake & exhaust wont be the only mods for the car. Ing. & some suspension are in my plans.

Great news guys!

to everybody who submitted their order, and double to LT1 & the others who got this GP rolling.

I'm defineatly down for another GP on the TPIS or SuperRam base To be honest, I need to get a bigger TB too (I'm thinking 52MM). I don't want to jump the gun, but are others in need of a TB also?

October, November is cool. I'm ready whenever... just as long as it goes through. Good work guys

Im in need of a TB also, I was thinking 58mm. I think we should go w/ the TPIS base GP first since it was brought up first. Im down for any GP: base then TB im up for. If we do the GP for the TB for me it wont be till Nov. seeing as I need to raise the $$$$ for the base first.
