Gauging interest: Group purchase on new ABS headliner ?

The deadline for this GP has been set to APRIL 6th, !!!

**************
**************

One of our sponsors "TPI PARTS" sells a complete ABS headliner kit which also includes new sun visors and sail panels for $250. That's the regular price.

I've spoken to TPI parts and they've agreed to sell the entire kit for $210 provided we can get at least 10 members to place an order.

Since these are built to order by the manufacturer, they typically take 3-10 business days before they ship out. In the spring time, they get busy, and it might take a little longer so if we decide to do this, the next month or two is definitely the time to do it.

In short, here's a brief summary of what's going on

..

WHAT WE'RE BUYING:
- Brand new ABS headliner in your choice of either Hard Top or T-Top version covered in 1 of 13 factory colored fabrics
- Brand new visors (x2)
- Brand new sail panels (x2) (your rear speaker covers)

WHAT THEY'LL COST US::
The entire kit will go for $210. Shipping will be via UPS oversize and cost aprox. $44 to ship within the 48 states.

HOW MANY ORDERS WE NEED TO QUALIFY FOR THE G.P. DISCOUNT PRICE::
10 orders minimum

HOW LONG UNTIL ORDERS START ARRIVING TO OUR DOORS::
3-10 business days for the manufacturer to prepare the parts + however long it takes to ship them out to you. (If you live in the US, it shouldn't take more than 5-7 business days on average.)

------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------

Other details:

After selecting the headliner kit that matches your vehicle (Hard-top/T-top) select the material color you want and then add the item to your cart and proceed to the checkout. You'll be asked to register before you can proceed with the order which only takes a minute or two to complete. Once finished, the next screen will ask you to choose your preferred method of payment (credit card/money order/paypal) along with two option box's.

***************
***************

1. "COMMENTS"

- In this box , let them know that your a member of thirdgen.org and let them know your user-name and that your part of the headliner GP. You may want to confirm with them which style headliner you ordered and the color you ordered it in, just to be on the safe side and avoid any chances of the wrong style/color headliner being shipped..

---------------------

2. "COUPON/GIFT CERTIFICATE "

- Here you will type in one of the following codes:

* GP1 (Will provide a $40 discount for those wanting to order just a headliner, sunvisors, sail panels kit.
* GP2 (Will provide a $55 discount for those wanting to order a ttop headliner, sunvisors, sail panels kit, and a pair of ttop sunshades.

So that's 2 members interested I don't see why Hawks couldn't give us a price closer to the $200 mark so long as we had a good amount of buyer's.

I plan on going with their "charcoal" colored headliner. I'm redoing everything in the car to black/charcoal, including two tone seats...

Anybody else interested in starting this GP ?

Looks as if interest is slowly starting to rise on getting this GP started. I find it hard to believe I'm the only 3rd gen owner with a sagging headliner. There's got to be other's out there with the same problem.

I just noticed that not too long ago, another one of our forum's sponsers "TPI PARTS" had a GP going and their asking price was $210 for everything - ABS headliner/visors and sail panels... complete.

That's a great price in my opinion and I'd be willing to pick up the package at that price if it was ever offered again.

So far, those who've responded are willing to spend in the $200 range. Is $210 close enough for you guy's if we can get that price again?

It's the same price for either one. Pick which ever you need.

If you look back at my original post, I've now updated it with everything we need to know. If there are any questins, feel free to ask.

If we can get 15-20 orders, it would cost us even less than that. There's no deadline as of yet, and won't be until we've already confirmed that 10 people are in 100%.
Put me down as #11, assuming they will lower the kit to 200. IF not, I'm out.

I am definitely in. I was about to order one, but now i will just wait and see if I can get a better deal. I just need to hit the RPO sheet and see what the color of my interior is.

We're picking up some interest, but we still have a long ways to go until we reach the 10 order minimum requirement. We'll let this thread go on and see what happens over time.

We won't set the deadline until we have 10 members at least...

I might be in for two sets, but only if they are not shipped by UPS. Any other carrier is fine.

Hi folks, this is Angel from TPI PARTS. I've been working with LT1Fun on this Group Purchase. I haven't heard from him in a while, and I haven't received any replies to the last couple of emails I sent him. I'm hoping we are having some email problems, and he isn't ill or anything like that. I'll try to answer some of your questions directly...

The headliner manufacturer ships with UPS. We haven't had any problems with shipping damage with headliners previously, nor any lost packages.

I know alot of you guys are wanting to order the kit at $200. Initially we were going to lower the price to $200 if we had over 15 people, HOWEVER, UPS shipping rates have risen significantly compared to the $44 mentioned earlier. This means we will be covering the additional $10-$18 to get to actual shipping cost within the US. We will go ahead and leave shipping at the $44 mentioned previously, but this means we will be unable to provide an additional discount. Pricing will be staying at $210 for the kit.

If you are in Canada and would like to jump in on the GP, contact me with your shipping address and I will provide you with a shipping quote.

We don't have any RPO information, but we can mail you guys free fabric samples if you contact us with your name, address, and let us know which colors you are interested in.

Sorry 'bout that. I guess my Yahoo account is filtering out your email's and labeling them under spam. I should probably go through my spam folder a little bit more carefully before deleting everything huh?

I have been paying close attention to this thread however.

As I said earlier, I didn't want to set a dead-line until we had 10 members committed to placing an order. That way, the deal would be a sure thing. Once we had 10 confirmed orders, that's when we'd set a final deadline. If no one else joined in by then, it wouldn't matter since we already had 10 confirmed orders.

So far, it looks as if we have about 5 people interested. We still need another 5 so hopefully, a few more people will find this thread and join in.

Id be good to place an order in the next few weeks (about mid-march) if all goes well so hopefully, we can get a few more people interested.

By the way, could you email me a shipping quote on what it would cost to ship to Scarborough, Ontario Candada? Postal Code is M1K-2W2.

Thanks in advance.

The problem with UPS isn't loss or damage, it's the extortionate brokerage fees they charge.

i agree, its very appealing, except for the 150$ charge UPS gives you for crazy fees at the door.

Glad to hear you are fine, and it was just email troubles. I'll just PM you here on TGO from now on.

I sent you a PM with a shipping quote a moment ago. Sorry it took me so long to get you your quote, I explained what happened in the PM.

Seriously? $150 in customs for a $200 package? I always knew that they got a little out of hand with fees, but I never imagined it would be that high.

Has anyone else here been charged 75% of the value of a package in brokerage fees?

$210 USD is $243 CAD. When it comes into the country, we have to pay federal tax of 7%, and provincial taxes (6% in BC), which adds $31.59 on to the price. UPS will charge $38.92 for brokerage, a $5.85 "bond" fee, plus a $4.25 C.O.D. fee. In total, UPS will demand $76.36 before releasing the package.

All carriers will collect the taxes, but no other carrier charges as much as UPS for brokerage. To add insult to injury, Canada Post charges $4 to collect the taxes, and has faster delivery than UPS.

i may have not been clear, but it was for a 385$ package that i was charged around 150$ for, and like Aperion said with UPS it's gonna be about 80-90$. USPS wouldn't charge 1/3 that price, is it something you could like into?

Well USPS will still cost you more than 1/3 of that... $38.02, for 14% HST and handling.

Whatever, though. I don't need new headliners.

It looks as if we have 6 potential buyers interested at this point. In other words, we're not quite there yet. I've updated my original post above with a list of "possible" user's who have shown interest. I'll update the list as more people show interest.

I wish I could, but USPS won't ship a package anywhere near this large. This normally ships via UPS Oversize 2.

Latchdogg79, just check this thread from time to time. Once we have 10 members wanting to order, a deadline will be set by LT1Fun, and everyone wanting to place their order will need to submit their order by the deadline to get the discount pricing. If you want some more details about the headliner kits, and miscellaneous details about the group purchase, look at LT1Fun's post at the very beginning.

I'm going to take out the list I started, and let LT1Fun take over that in the original post up top. Its going to be more easily seen up there than way down here.

roughskinjrz, we were originally hoping to lower the price further if we reached 15 or more orders. However, due to UPS raising shipping rates, we will be unable to do so. We will leave shipping at $44 within the US, but this means we will be covering the difference in shipping costs on every order within the US. Because of this, we will be unable to offer an additional discount. I realize that you are in Canada so we wouldn't be covering the extra cost of shipping on your specific order, but we will be doing so for most members placing an order.

I sent you a PM with a shipping quote a moment ago....

cwalsh, sure.... I can throw in a price break for Ttop sunshades as well. Regular price is $70 a pair. We can offer the sunshades at $55 if you order a headliner kit and sunshades at the same time.

I am interested as well. Now, when you say the kit includes sail panels and sunvisors, are they the physical parts, that you can screw onto the car, or is it mearly a covering to replace the old covering?

Yes, the kit includes the sunvisors and sail panels themselves. In other words, you would be removing your original sunvisors and sail panels, and installing the new ones. Sunvisors will mount onto your sunvisor brackets like the factory originals. The sail panels will mount differently from stock though. The GM panels mounted with some clips on the back. The reproduction sail panels will mount with double sided velcro. They are very nicely made, they just mount differently.

Ok, perfect, just what I was wondering about.

Oh, one more thing. What about the dome light? Will there be a cut out for that, or will we have to make the cutout for the dome light?
