Need a Font - Windows/Photoshop/Publishing Gurus

I have spent the better part of this weekend searching for the perfect font to reproduce RPO labels. My computer has 435 fonts plus I have combed the internet. NOW I AM ASKING FOR HELP. I figure this board has 10,000 computers with at least 100 fonts each so my odds are better for asking.

I have come close with the Arial, Sans, OCRB, Verdana but each has something wrong. Here are the criteria that I need in ONE smooth good looking font if anyone comes across one. Everyone check your C:\windows\fonts folder and see if you come across something I could use. I'll be using the font in Paint Shop Pro at 10 points.

thanks.........

The number 1 criteria is that you need a font that uses the same width for every letter. Otherwise the columns of codes don't line up right.

Yep... I would agree with that however I was suprised when I looked at the photos you guys gave me at how erratic the letters and number were. Especially up and down alignment.

Probably need to make the font in FontFactory or a similar program. I doubt that you'll find the exact font in .ttf format anywhere, unless you get lucky and find someone who has already made the font for making their own RPO code sheets.

Besides, why try to be so perfect? I doubt you are going to exactly duplicate the metallic silver, or the mylar label material, or the ribbon imprinting (not laser or inkjet) anyway. So if you aren't going all the way, and you aren't trying to pass the car off as something it isn't, why bother getting the font so exact. You could always mix the fonts to get closer, and play around with leading to line everything up.

This is the closest I could get with one of the fonts I have. Let me know if you want it.

Blue 502, you're right!

I definitely won't be trying to pass anything off as what it is not. I have no trouble with alignment as each code has it's own layer and may be manipulated separately even to the degree of purposely misaligning the codes to make them look authentic.

I'm pretty sure I can get close on the paper stock and actually simulate the clear covering with a laminate. The reason I'm being picky on the font is that with a little research this may be the one area that I can get close. I'm thinking these were printed with terminal type printers with a type element or type wheel and a ribbon as you say.

So there will be so many things I can't match that I will try to do as well as I can with the things I can get right.

Overall the reasoning is the same as Pontiac Historical Services use when they offer a repro Window Sticker. The closer the better.

I'm using myself as a test but I figure others could benefit from this as well. These cars may not yet warrant such critical scrutiny but I'm also thinking someday they will.

I'll stop short of getting out my old chemistry kit and trying to fade the ink and age the paper 17 years.............. LOL
