Re: Power Antenna rebuild thread....
I did the steel cable repair this weekend. Some thoughts/tips:
It's not necessary to burn/melt off the nylon, a simpler method is to take a razor blade and cut the length of the casing. Then it just peels off in one big piece.
Adding some dielectric grease to the gear seems to improve function slightly.
Over all, for the amount of time and price I would recommend this modification. Antenna seems to extend/retract better than with the nylon.

For testing before reinstalling from the battery here are the wire connections
For UP Grn is + Grey is -
For DOWN Grn is - Wht is +
This little tidbit of info is fantastic! Just pull apart the real connector next to the ECM and stick some paper clips into each color wire and test it. Luckily mine works perfect.
Thanks

Not sure if this is the correct part number for our cars, but in case anyone is looking for NOS, it looks correct.

Re: Power Antenna rebuild thread....
All I need is a replacement mast for my power antenna. After storing my Iroc in a storage facility, some baffoon broke off my mast. Any idea where I can get the proper mast? As you can see in the pictures, the bottom half of my mast is inside.

My firebird is the same way. Mast is broken. I think we're SOL on this one as I haven't been able to find a replacement mast.

For about $90 you can get the entire motor assembly, it’s identical to the one our cars had. All you have to do is 180 the mast and splice the 3 power wires and your done. You could also swap the finial from yours and it would be impossible to tell you even switched.

I have at least three fully functioning complete units. But I sell them for $225 each. You can also just google for the repair kit. They sell for $40-$60. It is a mast attached to the "fish Line" wire that retracts the mast onto the spool. You have to crack your unit in half and do the repair yourself. It's a little tricky if youve never done one.

if that is a true fit OEM that is a smoking price and I'd jump on that if I needed one. The true fit OEM usually goes for upper $200's and more. There is an "OEM" one there that doesn't fit correctly. I know because I ordered one and sent it back which is why I decided to rebuild mine. The mast tube is bigger, you have to mount it slightly differently and the original bezels don't screw onto it either. That was a few years ago so maybe I'm out of touch now. You can DM me if you're interested in an original that has been rebuilt. I need to get them out of my garage so I'll consider a decent offer on one.

Re: Power Antenna rebuild thread....
It's true OEM fit, the fender grommet and twist on bezel fit perfect with the Crown unit. Neil I think I saw the one you mentioned on a Firebird centric parts place and it looked really close but the top of the mast looked different and could cause the bezels not to fit, they also wanted $200 IIRC.
I still can't believe the aftermarket has not come up with a exact replica complete with correct length wire/plug and antenna wiring, but at least the Jeep/Crown unit works with a minimal of modification.
