350 engine in '88 Iroc convertible?
I've been looking for an Iroc convertible and have found one that the current owner says the first owner ordered it with a 350 and 4 wheel disc brakes. I remember reading about 350's being installed in them but I can't remember if they were factory installed or installed by someone else. I also can't remember where I read it. I know they were usually 305's though. Should they have some paperwork to prove it? Would this car still be a good choice to buy? Were there some ordered this way? The VIN shows a 305 but may be the case anyway.
Thanks for your help. Wayne

There were no convertables with the 350 at all. They were all 305's, this is why the VIN shows it.

The VIN is what it came with, so if it says 305 (it should) then thats what was in it. It could have been swapped for a 350 though. Or someone could have ordered a 350 car and had ASC convert it. Those are the only ways a 350 got into a convertible though.

Here's the scoop. I looked at it and it seemed very ragged for a 70K mile Camaro and it didn't have a new top. The drivers seat had a big hole worn in it. It didn't feel right when I drove it, it made a strange noise somewhere in the front end, and the drivers side fender and hood didn't quite look like it lined up just right. It did have a sticker on the underside of the hood that said 5.7L on it and it looked original. I got a Car fax and found that over a year ago it had over 145K miles, and it had been in at least 1 wreck. My guess is that the hood is probably off of another car. I did find that where I read about the 350's being installed in the convertibles was in the Camaro White Book. It said that a 350 could be installed by some specialty company but that the factory never installed them. I appreciate everyone's input and I'm going to keep looking. I may check an 89 Iroc 305 convertible out. I've talked to him before but I think he's asking just a little too much for it. On the other hand if it's all original and just has a few minor problems it may be the one and worth the extra $.
