At LS1.com someone just posted some pics outside of the factory showing a lot full of new Camaros and Firebirds. What a site!
Does anyone have any pics taken during the third gen era showing inside or outside the factory with new(then) third gen cars? That would be cool.

A month ago I had a similiar request...whether anyone had pics of the 80s of IROCs in a row at the local Chevy Lot or the annual car show. I remember seeing them---a red, blue, silver one in a row at McPherson Chevrolet in Lake Forest, CA... Unfortunately I wasn't into IROC then or I would have taken a pic.

TTAz
This is about the closest thing I've been able to find online, showing 66 TTa's on the track from 1989. I hope someone with actual factory pics sees this and gets inspired to post 'em.

It's not fate that you posted pics of TTAs lined up in a row at Indianapolis--circa 1989... This Sunday I am going to checkout a TTA for sale by a friend's friend. If all checks out..I will purshase the 22,000 mile vehicle. He has it chipped out with a custom performance exhaust system---runs low 13s according to him. Wish me luck in the experience/acquisition.

Never took a pic and I wish I would have, but I used to pass by the GM plant in Van Nuys and by the front entrance they had a big concrete pad and sign. On the pad they always had a new 3rd gen car on display.

I agree!
I use to go there all the time! Took alot of tours there also! Got some special key fobs (bronze ones), little booklets about the plant and it's history!
Heck, while my car was built (I own a 1989 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am that I bought new), I use to go down the side street, and look at all the cars! Believe it or not, alot of 20th Turbo Trans Ams got stuck outside in the rain!!! I saw it! Along with alot of other cars!! So think twice about the ads you see about cars never seeing rain!!

I miss seeing/going there! But I really miss all the car cruises on Van Nuys Blvd way back (I know, off on a tangent).

Oh well, old times!

Later,

George

All I have is photo's of 92 Z28 convts being pulled off the car carriers. A guy that worked at a dealership took them. They were shipped with the front spoiler(piece under the grill) removed so it would not scrape when rolled off the truck!

Hey David!
No, I never had my camera! Doh!!!
In fact, I called up my source at Pontiac to see if I could view my 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am being built, and when they got back to me latter that day, they informed me that my car had already been built! In Feb of '89! I picked up my car new at the dealership on April 1, 1989! Nice long wait, huh?
One of the last tours was with the Trans Am Club Of America-Golden State Chapter way back in '92! It was neat seeing the cars being built. I remember asking why the cars (Trans Am GTAs) had different taillights. They went and asked somebody, and came back telling us that the cars we were asking about were export cars. We never knew anything about export models at the time. Way too cool!
I would love to see some of your photos from then. Email me at: WarbirdTA@hotmail.com
I'm even willing to pay for dupes and shipping!!

Let me know,

George

The only new third gen pic I have is of my old RS a few days old...didn't look hardly any different than 13 yrs later when I sold it with 96k on it

I have a TON of new 4th gen pics that will be invaluable in the years to come. Working for a Pontiac dealer, I have ordered 33 Firebirds this year, and sold 24 so far...and I have a picture of every one The most awesome thing is when we had FOUR Firehawks on the ground at the same time!! I pulled them all out of the showroom even though 2 were already sold, and took a nice pic of them against a nice backdrop...how many other chances would a person have to film FOUR BRAND NEW hawks together at the same time??

Afterwards the sales manager and I did a couple hot laps around the building in the 2 that weren't sold...I love my job

Jason E,
could you post or send me a pic of the 4 Firehawks together? That must have been an awesome sight.
I sold Chevrolets during the '94-96 model years and remember seeing the truck loads of Corvettes arriving to drop off one or two. A couple of times there was a Grand Sport. I never had a camera with me to take pics. In 1990 one dealership had a new red '91 Z28 but I didn't get any pics. That would be the only new '91/92 "Z" that I would ever see. I did video new '92 Camaros on the lot but the dealerships here NEVER got any '92 Z28s or anniversary editions! So all I have is footage of a few '91/92 RS cars and also a 91 Trans Am and '91 Formula sitting next to two other new Firebirds. I also got some video of the '94 25th ann T/A and the 1999 30th T/A along with the 2002 CE and LE. But that's it as far as new car pics/video goes. I never got any large groups of new ones together since the dealerships here aren't very big and didn't sell many f-cars.

interesting,,, oh and my 84 Z28 was built in VAN, the car is here in IL, is that a common thing to see VAN built cars way across the country ? Or is my car not normal ?? its got rust issues in floor(pretty good hole through carpet) and door and such so its been here most if not all of its life

keep the good info coming, learning new is good.

This also isn't a factory picture. It's at Michigan International Speedway in 1982. Presumably these cars were for use by VIP's.

So, you gonna post 'em or what? If you don't have 'em online, could you email them to me, i'd love to see 'em. And if they came from FL, any idea when they were taken and where? Be hella cool if mine was one of the ones coming off, as you already know, mine is a 7/92 ASC build car, brought fromAnthony Abraham Chevy in Miami, drove off the lot 11/3/92

Awesome
here's a picture someone emailed me and the email itself too. Thanks! :

"Kiz,

I don't have the ability to post, but maybe you could send this along to our
friends at Thirdgen.org. It's a scan from the Los Angeles Times showing a
transporter full of Firebirds and Camaros leaving the Van Nuys plant on the
last day of operation. I wish the quality was better, but it's now a decade
old newspaper print, and fading fast.

Hey! I think I see my car on that truck!

joke, obviously.
Sure is cool to see a truckload of thirdgens. Kinda sad, too since you can't get them anymore.

Thanks for all the cool pics, guys.

bandit,

Hehe...what I have done all year is keep a disposable camera in my desk, so when new ones come in I always have a camera handy Its amazing what you can do with a disposable...pics have come out great!! BTW...my scanner is busted...I'll see what I can do about posting the 4 hawk pic...

We aren't a large dealer by any stretch....we sell about 10-15 new cars a month...about twice that used. But we have the New England market cornered on F bodies this year. Why? No one else stepped up to the plate? And why did we? Because of me Sorry to brag, but if it wasn't for me, 34 Firebirds never would have seen life...only 2 extras have been customer ordered all year. I begged my sales manager to let me order FIVE last fall...he conceded, and all were sold within 3 weeks of hitting the ground. We have now sold 27 for the year...with 3 left on the lot and 5 yet to be built. Firebirds have been our best-selling car line this year. And yes, many were sold not because it was the last year, but because someone actually STOCKED SOME for a change

Our mix this year:

Firehawks: 9 (still have 1, 2 coming in)
WS6s: 3 (my doing...I HATE that hood!!!) (have 0)
T/As: 4 (have 3 coming in)
Formulas: 9 (2 left)
V6s: 6 (0 left)

I know I'm 3 units off...those are off the top of my head. I think we sold a couple extra Formies as well. And my dad is the proud owner of a Sunset Orange 6 speed Formula...whats even funnier is the only reason I ordered it was because I had NEVER seen the color!! This was about as much fun as any F body enthusiast could've had this year...what can I say...I did my part to keep them alive

Too bad a lot more people haven't made such an effort to stock and sell these fine cars. I used to specialize in Camaros and Corvettes when I sold. Nobody else at the dealership really cared nor did they know hardly anything about them. The dealership I ordered my Firehawk from also ordered one for stock because of me once we figured out how easy they were to order. If you can, I'd love to see the 'hawk pics.
Have a good day.

In the movie "Best of the Best" Actor Eric Roberts works in the Van Nuys plant and the movie shows picture of the cars being buit there. I think the part of the plant is in is at the begining of the movie. It has been a few years since I have see this movie, but I remember it because of the camaro's and firebirds in the backround when they were filming in the plant.

Also I remember see picture in a magizine a few years ago about taking a 1969 camaro ZL-1 back the Van Nuys plant. It was a yellow car and I think articial was title some about going back home.

I hope someone else remembers these events and can provide more about them.

These aren't new but they are of my TTA I just purchased with 21,000 miles. If you look closely you can see the "20th Annaversary T/A" stamped on the ignition wires.

Go to my pics section.
