Charcoal canister relocation?

Recently I relocated my charcoal canister to the inside of the nose as far forward from the radiator as possible. I did this mainly to open up space for a cold air intake.
After this relocation, my car has had an inconsistant idle and even sometimes will die at a stop. Is this do to the longer tubing I had to use to reach the canister? I also had laid the canister on its side during the process of relocation, could this have caused it to clog up some how? If you think it has anything to due with the canister and/or you have a suggestion, please let me know!!!
Thanks,
Jim

I would suggest the Tech/General Engine board...might get some more responses there.

I ditched the old canister on my 2nd gen and used a fuel filter instead (as recommended by a friend). Of course my car doesn't have any computer sensors or anything on it.
