Does anyone know if this is real, and if so, what's the story behind it?

Well, this is interesting....
You'd think that with it being a Kruse auction, the car would be on the level. But the factory Notchback decklid wasn't being produced before the 1988 model year, and the car also has the matching high-back rear bucket seats too. In one photo also it looked like you could see a headrest from a GTA articulating bucket seat as well.
If this car is a 1987 prototype, that would mean it would have had to been produced sometime before that model year. I kept up with these cars pretty close when they were new, and I've never heard of these 4 prototype cars.
Besides, the options I listed above were meant for the GTA. I'd have a hard time accepting that they were installed on a lower-level Firebird model prototype before the GTA was even introduced, especially the Notchback decklid.
Just my opinion.... I'd want to see some sort of serious documentation before I bought that car. Kruse will no doubt try to command top dollar for it as well....
