Does anybody here own one (or more) of these?
I just scored my second remote control 1984 Trans Am made by Nikko back in 1985. These have proportional steering, are ~16" in length and take 6 "C"/4 "AA" batteries in the car and six "AA" batteries in the two channel transmitter.
I'm in search of one more so that my two sons (8 and 6) and I can race them together. Kind of an R/C "IROC" except with 'Birds instead of Camaros.
These could be won through a Pepsi promotional contest in the mid '80's and some were sold through Toys 'R' Us (for $750) or some other toy store. They are all 27MHz but were offered in at least five discrete bands so that multiple cars could be raced together.
If you've got boys who like 'Birds, these are a great toy to have.

I remember that. I'm 15 now, and I was playing around with one before we opened the Christmas presents like 4 or more years ago. I remember it said turbo on the hood scoop. I think it was an 82 or 83 model. It was black with yellow decals. Its probably in the basement somewhere now under pounds of boxes.

16"? That makes it roughly 1/10th or 1/12th scale. Very cool, I'd love something like that. I'd install hobby-grade electronics, etc... Have fun with it. (Let the kids try once in a while. )

88Stick350,
I remember those! I was a manger at a Karl's Toys And Hobbies back in 1985! We sold them! Since I was into Trans Am since 1977, I had to add it to my collection!!
It is 1/10th scale, and it is based on a 1984 Trans Am.
I bought it for around $100 new back then. I don't remember ever seeing it at a Toys-R-Us, cause I used to go to the toy stores all the time looking for Trans Am/Firebird related stuff!!!
Mine has been sitting in my glass display case since 1993!!! I used to race it around the parking lot next door!!
Yes, it is great!!!
Later,
George

Mr. TurboTA,
This second one is supposed to have never been run. There was another one a few months ago in the same condition that went for just $22!
Boy, I was miffed that I missed the opportunity to jump on that one.

I got lucky enough to find one on ebay a couple of days ago. I'm attaching a picture.
Notice it's not the regular version and it's not the pepsi promo either; actually it's the pepsi promo with the stickers peeled off. Too bad I don't have the door stripes.. looks better that way.
The inset photo is a "hot rod" extra body that came with it. It's from a different RC car but fits perfectly.
anyone else have one? I'd love to see pics.

Ive seen a camaro at the toy store lately. It looks like an 84-85. Not bad looking, red with some big tires.

I remember those. I had a red Camaro and I'm embarassed to say that I can't remember if it was a Z28 or IROC-Z. I was in first grade, so that was around 87' or 88'. I also had the very large model of a black 85' IROC-Z. I'm sure both of these have been thrown in the garbage over the year. I sure do wish that I had them now.

I remember those. I used to have a catalog that had those in it. My cousin got a remote control(wired) version back in the early/mid 80s that I think had pop up lights and steering but was real slow. THe radio controlled version would be much better. I wish they made RC cars today that were scaled correctly of Camaros and Firebirds.

who says they don't? you just have to be patient and look around thoroughly. There are dozenss of RC car body websites that sell proper aftermarket bodies in different scales, etc. Here's a good start just so you can see some of what's out there pre-packaged: http://www.gilandson.com/inpackage/radiocon.htm
