I was disappointed at the data when I pulled the sheet out of the box. More planning required. It would be a shame to choke the heads so much with that intake, but it looks too cool to not use.

Yeah it was me that bought those AFR 190cc Vortec Eliminator bare heads from you. Still have them sitting on the shelf next to a 100% complete used 3900 mile RamJet 350 induction system that was removed from a create engine with only the MEFI 4b ECU missing. Which works out great for me because I wasn't going to use the MEFI ECU anyways.

I been slow and lazy on my build. Been helping a friend get his 86 GN back in shape so he can take it on the Hot Rod Power Tour. It starts just down the road from us in BG.

When I get back on my Firebird project again I'll be sending them to Eric Weingartner to be assembled with components matched to whichever cam he specs out and have the RamJet 350 intake port matched to the AFR heads.

Oh I didn't mean to steal your thunder if you were planning to start a thread about your project with this cool TPI intake system. I was on YouTube and saw his video about a minute after he posted it. Thought it was cool and made a thread here on TGO about it.

nothing to be disappointed about watch his vids on carb manifolds they flowed 270-280 on a 300 plus head, that intake manifold is one of the best you can put on a SBC

Scroll down till you see the intake. No mystery really.

I still have one of these intakes i started to modify just like this back in the day. Never have finished it tho, maybe i should.

Haha no thunder stolen. The project is a long ways away, in the middle of a house renovation and then I'll have to build a garage in the back yard to do all the work. In the very early planning stages

yeah he also made crazy power with a 2 quad version on his 406 dyno mule, so I know there's power to be made with the lower. What I really need to do is have it properly ported and not just port matched and maybe even weld more material on the port to address the issue he had with not having enough material to go 1206. I might be getting in the weeds but a little here and there adds up to a better mousetrap

Sure enough that is @CamG813 Tunnel Port Injection intake. Cool to see that is was a Chevrolet engineering exercise.

Tunnel Port Injection?

If you thought TPI only stood for Tuned Port Injection, you're wrong. This is a Tunnel Port Injection system, which is basically an Edelbrock TR1Y tunnel ram with a Tuned Port top and throttle-body mount added to incorporate the EFI system. Special bosses were added on each runner to accept the injectors, and the fuel rail was modified to work around the runners. This little skunkworks project was a Chevrolet engineering exercise designed to investigate the power potential of the 5.0L V8 in the Camaro. It delivers roughly 275 hp with good torque but has been relegated to the back burner for the time being. We're not saying it isn't going to happen, only that it might take a while.

Re: Eric Weingartner - Flowing A Frankenstein TPI Intake Attached To A Head

This intake is interesting; it's 1/2 of a long held fantasy/day-dream that I've had.

Combine ^that^ intake and the stock TPI intake to make a dual mode intake.

Take a TPI, take some ~2" x 1.2" aluminum sq tube and cut at the right length and angles such that they would fit between the top of the base runner roofs, and the bottom of the plenum. Cut a respective hole in each base runner roof, just up stream of the injector bung, weld the tubes on to them. Cut 8 respective rectangular holes in the plenum floor, devise a seal or flange for bolting the plenum on where is "seats" on top of the open sq tube runners, as you bolt the stock runners on, to support the plenum

Finally, devise a "mode valve" system in the base, that closes off either the sq tube short runners, or swings down to close off the long runners while becoming a "floor" for the short runner where it enters the base, just upstream of the inj bung.

Will I ever make this abomination? Probably not. Would it be fun to try? IDK...but I think it could solve the long runner problem, while retaining the long runner appearance/looks and mid range tq benefit.

I had the same Idea, it really kicked in when I saw some intakes with butterflys that would block off ports when not in use. Put that in the plenum floor till high RPM air was needed. Talk about a packaging nightmare
