Pull Down Hatch
My friend in town has a slight problem, his hatch won't close because it's suposed to do this by itself.
It's an 87 IROC 350 TPI, less than 10 k miles, for sale for 10k......
Anyway he can't close the auto hatch because the rack is stripped out.
help!

take the housing off. Look down inside, there should be a lever that you push down, that will raise the hatch. MOst likely it's just stuck in the down position, this is usually the case.

That switch is called the "striker sensing switch". Sometimes is does get stuck. Also check the 15 amp "LID" fuse, third from the left at the top row. I can e-mail you scans from my HELMS manual to diagnose the unit. I also have a 7-page repair manual I created that I can e-mail to you as well that will help you if needed. I stock the parts to repair these, should you require them. I also sell rebuilt units as well.
