Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I purchased my first bird with the help of my grandmother. She was a 1972 I had the car for about 4yrs & the body just had enough. My boss at the car dealer I worked for was trying to find me a car. One night a customer traded in a 1982 TA . They parked the car in front of the office door with a ribbon & I had that car for 10yrs I sold it because of the EX I should have kept the car & got rid of him
I started looking for my 82 with no luck to purchase the car back. Then I came across thirdgen & fell in love again >There was my 1991 green GTA
Apparently she had been for sale for a while Just waiting for me .It has been fun trying to fix it back up again I dont know what this poor car has been thru but,its safe with me now. I plan on having this TA until I'm very old.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
about 2 yrs ago a buddy that i worked with was selling this 88 trans am. his wife tired of driving it because of a few problems with it
... so then he got tired of it too. i know a bit about cars not everything by any means but enough to fix it up. so one day he comes into work and so hey Mikey do you know anyone that wants the t/a... i ask him how much he wants. he said $500. i said well what would be my price. then he says ohhhhhhhhh you want it.
. well of course i do. i have wanted a f-body since i was old enough to do my first oil change(7yrs.) on my own. he says $300 for you. i went over that night and bought. the wife was awwww struck at the deal for as little as i had to do to it that weekend.
THE CAR:
needed alternator & battery first so that i didnt have to disconnect the cable when it got shut off.
then had to change shocks & struts to fix the tranny slippage.
that was the immediate probs when i bought it.
now i have just been customizing it to my likes.
when i bought it by the way it was yellow with black racing stripes
and at the moment it is primer black
car also had had 3" exhaust cat back with (2 7/8") oulets
here are the before and after photos for when i sanded down and primed her. hope to be able to afford a paint job sooner than later
later on fellas

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Here's how I got my '88 IROC Convertible
I had just graduated high school in 1988 and got my first job shortly after that. I was driving a 1987 305 TPI Z28 with 32k miles on it. It was black with the silver bottom. I had already put the IROC badging on it and added the fog lights and IROC grill.
I was driving home one night from work and there on the turn table at the chevy dealership was a black IROC convertible. I about got in a wreck drooling over it. I kept on driving thinking man I wish I could buy something like that. The next morning I decided to stop and just look at it. Of course a car salesman caught me. I told him I really wanted this car but there's no way I could afford it so don't even waste your time with me. He's says, "Oh I bet there's a way. Let go talk." I'll make the long story short but after being at that dealership for 8 hours haggling I finally drove it off the lot that night. I was mentally exhausted after all that.
Now here's the funny part. I was looking in the following Sunday's newspaper and there I see the dealerships big ad. The featured car was my '87 Z28, only it was listed as an '87 IROC. Guess they didn't bother to check the RPO codes. I hope the person that bought it knew their camaros.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Mine is a kinda interesting tale.Back in high school in 1989 a girl I went to school with got an 89 Pace car when she started driving{her parents bought only the best of the best}.She drove the car until 1995 at which time I started to see her driving a Toyota.I always wanted a pace car,and I just started a good job around that time and was still living with my parents so money wasnt an issue.I called a friend of mine who was a new car dealer and asked if he could have any of his auction guys keep a lookout for the 89 pace car going over the auction block. He called me a week later and told me he couldnt get the pace car but that he found something I might be interested in.He got a screaming deal on a black on black cloth L98 car loaded. The car had a few issues. It was a trade in that couldnt be sold legitimatly. It had 4 bald tires, the paint was faded, and the engine would never pass emissions since the car had a ton of performance work done to it.Rather then change it all back the car could be mine for 5 grand cash and carry which was pretty good since it was in the book for over 11 grand at the time.I bought it,put 4 tires on it,had Maaco lay a thick coat of single stage black on the car and after a few months I wet sanded and buffed it to a mirror shine.I drove it and added some more stuff to it until 1998 when I had too many cars and not enough room for them all{at the time I owned the GTA,a restored 71 Vette,my current 73 firebird race car and a dragster that I was tired of racing and looking to sell} and I sold the GTA to a friend for $5500.He added a few more things to it,and drove it for a while. He would park it in front of his house with for sale signs on it with crazy asking prices of 9 or 10 grand. One day in 2003 I saw it outside for sale and this time it said $3500 or best offer.I had the cash to him by the end of the day,and have been driving it in fair weather ever since.I now have some issues with it,but eventually I will get it sorted out and it will be back on the road.In the mean time I have been driving my 73 firebird drag car around on the street just for HAHA's.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Hi Guys,
Bought my 90 RS about 2 months ago. . . My first car.
Been searching with no luck for an IROC, but one day found this RS for sale in front of a Orchard Supply store for $1,800. . . Called up the lady selling it, took it for a drive (first time I ever drove a Camaro) an was hooked. Found out she was gonna give it to her son, but he lied about not having his licsence. . . so up for sale it went and into my hands for $1,500 cash. . .
Other than the Kenwood CD player and do-it-your-self or Cheap azz Maaco paintjob, the car is original. As Jeremy Clarkson would say, I'm probably the 4th or 5th murderer to have owned it, but I love it. Its my baby. Looking to restore it. It's got some issues, but nothing that can't be fixed.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Hi, Im the n00b here.
I do not have a Z/28. I had a 72 Z/28 w/ a 383 and a manual VB 700r4.
I was looking to get a 3rd Gen Z-car but all the ones I looked at were REALLY thrashed. I live in upstate NY and the winters here kill cars. I had just about given up on getting a summer toy that only needed a few odds and ends getting it running. Every car I looked at was either a 5k dollar runner that didnt need much work; or a 750 dollar POS.
I was at a cruise-in with my dad in his 55 chevy (327/4spd/ansen 5slots) and talking to a friend of his. 2 days later she called me and told me her daughters "old firebird" was for sale because she was tired of looking at her daughters car parked in her mothers yard. I went over and looked at it, 1987 trans am w/ grey cloth interior; every interior bit and piece still there; 305tpi (LB9) POSI rear; hazed clear coat, sagging doors. Daughter said she has "some parts for it with the car" Hatch strut, new shocks, extra GFX, another intake manifold, spare rims, new battery, new headlight door motor and some generic headers. I agreed to her asking price of 1200 dollars and the agreement that I fix it right (my dad taught autoshop...it'll be fine).
The car is supposed to be delivered today. Best part for a NY car? ONE rusty spot on the rear wheelwell lip. Im going to have lots of questions about third gens, especially trans am's. Im a very knowledgeable car guy when it comes to carbs and 350+cid, but not 305s and TPI. My friend is a computer engineer and hes jazzed that I have an EFI car for him to play with; but, I really hate to modify this car too much, since its in rare shape for a rust belt car and seems to have everything. I only have one pic, from my cellphone.
Can anyone tell me what the little flashlight thing is in the overhead console, since I dont have an owners manual? Thanks in Advance.

Craigslist
. I was looking for months and finally found a Z28 for under $2K. So I called him up and came to look at it and test drive it. Ended up buying it less than a week later for $1850. You usually see RS's go for that price.

I think Im going to like it around these parts. I used to mock 305 motors...a LOT and now Im moderately stuck with one. I might get a bug up my rear and drop an L98 in it; but I doubt I'll do much more than deal with the fact these motors run HOT, toy with the EPROM, maybe a shift improver kit and some bolt on suspension goodies; and ditch that rusty crush-bent exhaust.
Seems not many of the people who are here were that rich spoiled kid who got a brand new Z28 or Iroc or Formula when he was in high school. Funny how we appreciate them, and the rich brats just threw em away...actually its not that surprising afterall.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I walked in to Tom Benson Chevrolet in San Antonio, Texas and had a salesman write up an order form for my 1985 IROC-Z. (March 85) At the time, there was only one other IROC on the road in the 10th largest city in the United States (at that time). That was the selling point as I was also considering the 85 Nissan 300ZX. There were lots of the Nissans running the streets. I wanted to be in a more exclusive car. My car was built in Van Nuys, California and I waited 2 months to take delivery (May 85). Still have the car today, 22 years later. I drive it daily to work and back and sometimes to just cruise or visit car shows.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
first third gen was a 82 T/A Recaro with a 350 and 4 speed it was rigged from the front to the back. The first owners decided to put on 12" wide back tires and wheels woulda looked better if they didn't hang out the fenders 3" I had to change the carb and wheels and tires and minor engine work but that thing was fast. When it ran I think I bought it for $500 and sold it for $1000 6 months later
Fast forward 6 years, I was walking from work to my wifes work (my Dodge Dually decided to give up the injector pump). I seen the T/A on the side of the road, paint is faded but interior looks good, started getting the T/A bug again. I waited 3 or 4 days not quite sure if it was tired of walking or what but I finally called he only wanted 900 for it. As soon as I heard it. It brought back the memories of the old T/A and I had to buy it. Yea it has the LG4/th700r-4 2.73's but its still an awesome car. Now in process of getting minor details done before paint, all the owner asked is that he wants to see it when its done. He got rid of it because he got a 2002 ram air T/A. He said he wanted to make the 86 a knight rider clone, no offense but saved this one from being made into junk. And selling this one is out of the question.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I bought my 1991 Z28 on Christmas eve, 1990, from Scott Irvine Chevrolet in Valencia, Ca. I had been looking at Z's and TA's since 1989, and the time was finally right. I almost backed out when I noticed it was a drum-brake-rear car, but the salesman came down a little on the price. I had been the only potential customer in the dealership all day, and all of the folks there said, "Let's make him a deal and go home". I seconded the motion.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I found mine at a local repair shop. Seems the teenagers that owned it tried putting a JY starter on it and when he couldn't get it past the y-pipe, took a hand axe to it. Repair shop replaced the starter with a new one, installed a new y-pipe, and fixed a cooling fan problem.
When the shop called the kid to come get it, he couldn't be reached, so after a year of it sitting there, the shop got the title from the state and put it out front for sale, I bought it for what the repair bill was, $500.
So, now after fixing a dent in the pass. side door and doing an internet $50 paint job on it, plus parting out a '91 RS for its interior, about done with a weekend cruiser/ track day car (just needs exhaust work now).
All told, I ended up with with a total investment of $1200 into my '89 RS.

Point out that the Camaro is made of steel. The Honda is made out of plastic. Then take a plastic bottle and a metal can, and have him try to crush both. See which crushes easier.
It's how I got the okay for my Camaro.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I bought mine new,yes I know the history. I first saw the car halling truck pull into the car lot. the first thing my eyes saw was this beautiful fire red convertible with a black ragtop. My heart said it was mine, so I walked across the street and told the truck driver it was mine. He said (sure!!) I went inside and asked about it. It had been a special order and money had been put down on it. The sales person asured me if something went wrong with the deal she would call me.
One week later it was mine.
92 convertible
corvet top yr?? the back window was replaced and the only one that would fit was corvet window.
special rear-end?(I was told by the sales person) to accomedate for a larger moter.
asc tag on door
people always ask me what year of trans, it is? It's not, just a firebird, I think!! my manual was stollen and when I ordered a new one, its not the right one.

One week later it was mine.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Well this is my second camaro. The first one my mom bought when i was 15. It was a 1991 RS. What she was unaware of is that the car was **** before we got it. It was a surprise so I never got to take a look at it until it was paid for. 3000 bucks, and we ended up having to scrap it because the uni-body was being held together by a leafspring. So a few months after we scrapped the car I picked up my 82 z28 from a friend of a friend, lol. Had the choice between a red iroc or the z28, the reason i chose the car i did is because it had a new motor and trans, and the person that ended buying the iroc blew the clutch within a week after purchase. So for a 1000 bucks I got a perfectly driveable car.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Green RS (1992) - Bought it about 2 yrs ago, in a rush for a Camaro, it had the 3.1, stole it for $2000.00 CAD, still running today and is my winter car
Black RS (1989) Bought it for $3800.00 when I seen it online, ran good, not enough ***** for me so I sold it for $4300.00
White Formy - Bought this a week ago lol, for $4500.00 and it is everything I wanted, saw it on the side of the road by my house, I love this thing!

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I had a white 87 IROC, 1 of the 15 F bodies I had owned over the years. I bought it from a friend. It had been sitting in the yard for a while and was starting to get mold on it from sitting so long. I ended up putting some work into it and fixing it up.
Few years later another friend, Mac from NEThirdgen.org put up a post about his friends car being for sale. I had seen pictures before and always loved the gun metal grey. The price was great, $1,000 for an 88 350 TPI IROC in good shape. There were 2 major issues. 1) I already had a 3rd gen project and had learned previously that having 2 projects going at the same time means you spend double the money and get half the work done lol. 2)The car was in West Virginia and I was in Connecticut. I couldn't pass it up though.
I talked to my friend, who I had bought my 87 from. He had always bugged me about the car since he sold it, so I figured I would give him the chance to buy it back. He jumped at it.. but had to talk to his fiancee. A few days later he got back to me and said he couldn't buy the car since they were saving money etc etc.
The following day his fiancee called me and asked if I still wanted to sell the car... confused I said yes. Turns out she wanted to surprise him and buy it for his birthday. So it ended up the 88 cost me nothing, since I sold the 87 for the same price. Took some planning and a very long weekend with lots of driving to get the car from WV to NJ, and then another weekend trip to get it from NJ back to CT. I've done a lot of work to it since, and it's been awhile since I have driven it now... but soon it should be on the road again.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I already own an '02 Camaro but my dad and brother made me jealous with their third gen trans ams so I did my research and fell in love with the IrocZ. I did not want to spend a lot on one because I wanted to rebuild it and make sure I could get some new parts under the hood for reliability. I saw an ad for an Iroc with a 350. I went out to see an 86 which was actually a 305 tpi with a good body but the motor was taken apart down to the block and pistons. They said they blew the head gasket. I noticed aside from the hood and front bumper cover, the body was in great shape. Well, three months later I just now started it after rebuilding the top half of the motor and getting hedman headers with flowmaster exhaust and MUCH more. I love it, I'm getting body work and paint done within the next month or two. It feels great to say I saved an Iroc. I love third gens.

I was out on a delivery at work one day and as me and a co-worker were looking at it the owner walked over. We started to talking about it, and he said "you want it?". Soon after, I bought my first car and never looked back.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
How I got my current Trans AM is connected in a way to my first Trans AM. In 1982 a female co-worker was freshly divoriced, and traded her Dodge van in for a new 1982 Black and Gold T/A with T-tops. I looked at that car everyday, and each day it looked cooler then the day before. One day in the fall of 82, she let me drive it. The next day I bought my first new car, a white 1983 WS7 with T-tops. It was sweet! Unfortunately, it was also a true lemon. It stayed in the shop more then we had it. It was so bad that Pontiac extended the bumper to bumper warrenty to 24 months/24K miles in order to get the bugs out of it. Long story short, they couldn't fix it. Since we had two kids in diapers, I caved in and traded the first 83 for a new Ramcharger. Loved the Dodge, but couldn't get over the T/A. Bought T/A number two in the summer of 83, again brand new, this one silver, WS6, manual transmission,T-tops. Might have been a great car. At one week old, it drowned in a flood. It was submerged in muddy river water about 30 feet deep for over a week, before it could be recovered. RIP! Over threats of a divorice, I bought number three at the end on 1983, as the 84's were arriving on the lots. It was a new, white, auto, t-top car with just a few options, nothing special. I kept number three until 2003, and by the way, that promised divorice finally happened, only when she left, she left the kids with me, but that is another story! In 2003 number three had 42K miles on it, and lived to collect dust in the back of the garage. It was completely stock, and in showroom new condition. My second wife thought we were too old for such a car, and we did not use it much, so in a brief moment of insanity, I sold it. DT's soon started. I began to look for another car. It had to be a third gen Trans AM. It had to be a T-top car, and it had to be so unrealistically clean, that I knew I would never find it. We live just off the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. The area is sparsely populated, and there are few good places to buy cars nearby. Everyone says don't ever buy a REZ car, as it will be totally trashed! One day last March I passed this small used car lot, and there sat a decent looking 86. For weeks, I just drove by thinking it was probably a typical junker, then one day, I just stopped. It was a 26K original car, sold new to an older couple on the Rez who kept it in thier basement, and rarely drove it. Looking closer, WS6, 305 TPI, T-Tops, 9 bolt 3:27 Posi, just about every option available, no rust, no body work, still with the original tires, hoses, belts, and everything worked! The original paperwork and all service records were still in the car. THERE IS A GOD! The next hurdle was to convince the wife that this was a live or die situation. It must have been my lucky day, because the wife was encougaging. Pulled out the Discover card, and announced, I gotta have it! Number four now sits in the back of the garage collecting dust. My grandson has his eye on it, but he will just have to wait! Charles
Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I bought my first Camaro in the summer of 2000. It was an '88 IROC 350 t-top car. I never thought I'd like t-tops until I owned that car. It was a blast, but the block cracked in the lifter valley.
It was sold soon after.
My second Camaro was an '89 IROC 350 hardtop G92 package car. It was awesome! Drove all the way to Indianapolis to get it. It had 103k on it, and it went 14.79 at the track before I ever turned a wrench on it. I built the motor and put leather interior in it. I eventually took it down to rebuild the tranny and ran out of money. Started parting it out, and eventually sold it about 6 months ago after it had sat in my garage for a little over 2 years.
I'm currently on the lookout for my next thirdgen. This one is gonna be the keeper. See my sig for details. If you know of one, please let me know!

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
First one I bought was a 1991 RS white hardtop 305TBI 5 speed car... bought it with 43K miles on it from a couple that was in a divorce.... kept it for 4 years and traded it on a 1995 Dodge Avenger (got married and a kid on the way).... had 119K on it when I traded it...
Second one was a 1986 IROC-Z that had been sitting in a field for about 3 years that was not running.. gave 1800 for it and started going thru it and getting it back into running shape... changed the tan interior out to gray.. it was a 305 TPI/700R4 car.... white factory paint was in decent shape... not much rust at all (amazing for the time it sat in the field).. ended up selling it for 1000 dollars to a guy in Kentucky before I moved to California...
Current one is my 92 RS hardtop 305TBI 5spd car... Polo Green Met II color with the tan deluxe cloth interior... I bought it for 1000 dollars and it was a one-owner car.. still have the original window sticker and build sheet for it... I bought it from a ladys father that had bought it new for his wife... she drove it for a few years and then they ended up buying her a 95 Z28 and he kept on driving the car... it had 248,000 miles on it when I bought it in July of 2005...I drove it cross country back here to Tennessee and had no problems at all out of it and averaged about 25 mpg all the way across.... Still drive the car a couple times a week...

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I had been looking for a 3rd gen Camaro ever since I began thinking about driving. When I was 15 1/2 Me and my dad got a dirt cheap 1980 Phoenix (Which is nothing like a firebird
) and I drove that around and saved my money till one day my dad comes home and practically beats down my door to tell me about this pretty red camaro he saw on a test drive. We drove down there and had a talk with the owner. It was a camaro but it had none of the options I really wanted, but it was really really pretty. I bought it. Three months later I wasn't paying attention and smashed it into an Intrepid. By that time it had grown on me so I found an 84 Berlinetta front clip for 100 bucks. I cut and welded it on, had it painted and drove it for three more months. Until some snowy night I was driving home and I crested a hill and right there in the middle of the road some guy in a Crown Vic just decided that it was a good idea to chat with his friend, and I plowed into him too.
So I still own my old 1987 Sport Coupe I pushed out the front sheet metal hung a spare fender and hood and painted it an off shade of red (My dad's truck was almost the same color.) I've been slowly trying to rebuild it ever since and this summer I'm hoping to finish the job (Maybe with some Z-28 GFX to boot!)

I ordered it in January of 91 and drove it home 8 weeks later in March. Car ran a 14:19 at 97mph stone stock with 40,000 miles on it. I still have it today with 280,000 miles + on it. Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I've got a red 89 IROC 305 TBI. I bought from a guy in Greensboro, NC after I found it listed on Auto Trader.
Before that I had a 76 Cosworth Vega (black/gold) (all original) bought it at the Food Lion Auto Fair in Charlotte, NC
69 Camaro Yenko (rally green, clone)
86 IROC (white) bought off ebay in Georgia
00 Camaro SS Convertible (white) bought it off ebay in Florida
As you can tell I'm a chevy guy, more specifically, a camaro guy!
On the yenko, I bought just a plain 69 camaro body from a junkyard that was in great shape, just surface rust, nothing had began to eat through yet, restored it to stock looks, painted it and dropped a 502 crate with true dual, literally straight pipe with gmmg chambered mufflers cut out from the catback kit and placed at the ends of the x-pipe just before going over the axle. That sucker was LOUD!!!!!! It was dyno tested at 853HP and 782TQ! Couldn't keep a set of tires on that thing for nothin'!
Wish I still had it though.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
This is the story i went threw i was looking threw the news paper and saw an ad for a Z28 in Detroit lakes for 800. Thought to myself maybe i should show my mom this car and she said we could look at it next week. Well my mom kept her word and we drove all the way their in the suburban (black school bus) lol and when we got their the car was just sitting next to their house and was kinda beat up (red) and had lots of hail damage looked horrible. looked just like my cousins camaro. so i was like no, im not bying this and i talked to the owner for awhile and he was a rilly old biker guy, you know the ones that have the huge beard and ride bikes every day
. well we where talking and he said he had a 91 camaro vert sitting in the garage that was mint, my jaw nearly hit the ground when i herd this he showed me it was in his quanzet with a tarp and like 15 bikes all sitting next to it.. we dug them all out and took the cover off and i saw it and i nearly pissed myself seeing that thing. He said i could buy it for 2.5 and said i want to see if it starts and lone and behold that it started right up on first try i nearly cried. he said he hasn't started it in about 5 years. had all the convertible parts it was supost to have. so i hagled him down to 2k bought it brought it to a close auto place to get all the oils changed drove her home that night

well my brother friend bought an iroc-z i think he paid like 1500 bucks for it,so anyway long story short he bought it home.started flooding real bad then knocking after spending over a grand to fix it from flooding he gave up and bought another iroc-z.so after 3yr the car been sitting at he house weeds growing though the wheels even a pine tree.so i ask him if he wanna sell it for 450bucks well he said he would let me know.after weeks and weeks he finally agreed.so i went to his house and tried to crank it fired right up still flooding it *** off.switched the ecm and it was good to go but it still had a knock.so my dad and i rebuilt the engine.

Back in 2001 my father found a 83 z28 for 500$ and said that it would be a steal so I went with money in hand and ended up buying it. It had the fiberglass hood and crossfire 305 and 18" rims with adapters and I just couldn't stand the 305 so I had it yanked out in less than a week of owning it. I swapped a 4bolt 350 with vortech heads mild cam and a full port and valve job and a 750 carb with intake. The engine made roughly 420hp and 440tq to the wheels and was to much for the 700r4 so I replaced the transmission 4 times till I found a good th350. Well after dumping a couple grand into the car I had a oil pressure line rupture at the fire wall and it caused a fire inside and in the engine bay and before I could get to my extinguisher it was to late. I bought a 78 chevy monza and I was building it for autocross and I retired that car for race and bought a Fiero and a 85 Rx7 and like both but I missed my V8. While driving my Fiero I found a 92 RS 305 5spd with deluxe black cloth interior and it was mint. I checked out the engine and it had every record from 92 to recent and had 185k and needed a trans rebuild and a new clutch. I plan on building up a new engine for it but once my Monza is done but I am thinking of a 427 sb and a 4spd but that will change a couple times.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Okay, here is my story.I have owned many Chevy products, my last being a 77 Nova that I sold in 2005 to finance my daily driver Jap car.In 1999, I bought a '65 Studebaker which I still have and that I'm slowly working on.Fast forward to last year, where a software engineer who works in my building, knowing that I'm a car guy asked me if I wanted a very used 92 Camaro.I went to the guy's house and looked at the car.It was a mess and hadn't been started in about 2 years;something about a fuel system problem. After looking it over, I respectfully said no.Well, about a month ago, he asks if I know of anybody that would take the Camaro for FREE!!I had to say yes.I had it towed to my mechanic last week and told him to take his time with it.Went to DMV to get it titled, and so far my total investment is less than $300!!More details as they become available....

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Ok, back in 1996 my parents bought a 1989 RS with a 305 TBI, my mom just wanted a camaro. So she drove it for a while, no winters, and in 1999 in my junior year of high school i got a good job and my parents asked me if i wanted to buy it from them, so at the time i bought it for $3000. I drove it the spring of my junior year and the summer before and the entire senior year. The temp guage never worked and i only drove 3 miles to school and work and back so the car never got hot. Well right after i graduated i was on my way to a store that was a half hour away. Well i got there and steam started pouring out from under the hood. I popped the hood and there was antifreeze everywhere, and it blew the plastic side off the radiator. The electric fan stopped working and cooked the motor. So we limped it home and i parked it. We rebuilt the top end and got the heads checked and put it back together, i drove it a couple days and then it started knocking. So i parked it again. Over the next year and a half i built a 350 for it (spun main bearings in the 305), cleaned or replaced all the interior, detailed the engine and engine compartment, and stripped the paint down and gave it a new coat, i put 4 new goodyears on it, and personally tuned the chip for it. So since 2002 it was been my garage queen, and show car. I take it to alot of local car cruises and shows, taking home a trophy at one big show (2000+ cars) two of the past three years ive gone, in the 1967-1992 camaro's and firebirds class. I get lots of compliments on the car and there are very few third gens in my area and if there are any around they are junkers.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
Back in early 2006 my mom's '01 hyundai threw a rod through the crank case when she was getting on the interstate. We really needed another so she could drive to work. My neighbor's son's first car was this white camaro that I thought was really cool. It just so happened that he was tired of driving the 'maro and it was up for sale. We went across town to where it was parked and looked it over. White '83 z28, 67k original miles, perfect interior, bone stock, perfect except for a dent in the driver side quarter. My parents bought it for $1300. The plan was for my mom to drive it for a year and then it would be mine when I turned 16. They ended up buying her a new car a week later and the 'maro sat in front of my house for a year torturing me. I used to stare out the window at it wishing I had my license. Now I drive it every day and I love it! I just wish I had the money to fix her up... she's starting to show her age.

I had been looking for a 1987-1990 formula firbeird [yellow] for about 2 years. Finnaly found one in Indy for a great deal. 1987 formula 350 yellow with only 40,876 miles on it. The car is in mint condition, paid 2,750 for the car. Love it!!!

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
I was looking for a muscle car project, and checked out a few ads in the paper. The fox body Mustangs I saw, even in good shape, just didn't get my heart going. I found my Firebird about 30 miles out of town, the guy had just pulled it out of his barn and wanted space for other things. It is in worse shape than any of the Mustangs I looked at, but they don't turn heads like a black Firebird with gold wheels does.

I bought my 88 Formula recently it has a 305 L03 TBI motor 700r4 auto 6hp rear I paid 500.00 for it from a friend running
I bought it because my 89 formula steering box came off the frame and wrecked I miss it though it had a 305 TPI and was a lot prettier

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
well as for me it all started when i got my job i would walk to work everyday and everyday i would pass a house with a 91 Z28 and finally one day i went over and knocked on the door and asked the owner if he would sell me the car and he said let me think about it and come by tomorrow and ill let you know. well tomorrow came by went to his house and he told me that he would sell it to me for 3,000 well i test drove the car but it was acting really weird but he told me that he would fix the probloem before he would sell it to me and i sait thats fine so i just told him give time to gather the money since 8 dollars an hour is pretty much nothing. so a month pass by and he saw me walking and told me take the way it is for 2,000 i told him i so far got 1,500 hes all ok then well pretty much have a year went by and told me take the car the way it is for 1,000, ran home got the money and i got the car and pretty much all that was wrong with it is that it needed a tune up and a set of new injectors and thats how i got my car thanks for reading.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?
my car has a history to it. a very emotional story for me to tell.
this car use to belong to my best friend. it was his first car he ever owned in highschool. we use to run the streets in this thing and do a lot of stuff that i am glad we never got caught by the police doing. he sold this car after we graduated highschool. we had a 3rd generation f body. me with my trans am, ronnie with his camaro, and tim with his firebird.
well, about 4 years ago my friend, tim, and another good friend left this world. they pulled off at a rest area, fell a sleep in their truck and never woke up do to carbon minoxide poison.
about 3 years ago i was driving some back roads about 30 miles north of my parents house. i saw the blue firebird setting on the side of the road. it looked a little bit ruffer then i remembered but it still had "Firebird" on the windshiled of the car. i put this on there in tech mod class durring highschool. i went and knocked on this guys door and told him my story. he sold me the car for $200.
i am in the process of doing an engine swap on it. the 2.8 is out and the 305 and trans is setting in the car. as soon as i find the time i am going to finish up this car. just a couple more hours of work.
i am looking forward to starting this bird up, driving the back roads with the t tops out, and smoking his brand cigerate. it really sucks that he will not be riding shotgun. brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.
miss you tim
