washer tank mounting
Where does the washer tank mount on a '85 TA?
I thought it was on the driver side fender but I got some wierd thing in the way and it won't fit. The thing is called a servo (according to Chiltons). It has some wires and vacuum tubes coming from it. The diaphagm side has a cable running to my throttle body.
What is it?Is it for cruise control? Can I remove it?
My cruise control is not working. The wiring in the turn signal lever has been removed. I really don't care about cruise control.

from what ur describing it is a piece of your cruise control. I removed mine because my cruise was not working and it was just basically cluttering the engine bay. but ur washer tank should go on the driver's side.

Might be the wrong washer tank. They used 2 different ones, one has a pump as part of the tank, the other doesnt. Yours doesnt have the pump on the tank unless you are changing things around on the car. I'm not sure if the cruise is mounted in the same spot or not, but I do know the tank with the pump is bigger than the other one.
There are actually more than 3 tanks they used. As to which is the right one, its not based on cruise/non-cruise or Camaro/Firebird, its about the location of the cruise servo.
TPI and MPFI Firebirds have the cruise servo mounted on the inner wheel well next to the washer fluid tank, which subsequently has an indentation for clearance. TBI birds with cruise have the servo mounted on the front frame rail, the same as a Camaro.
So basically you just need the right tank for your car, and you need to make sure that there's nothing mounted in the wrong place.

Thats strange.....My GM Parts Manual only lists two for '84-'86. The guy who strarted this thread has an '85 TA. Yes, there are more for various years, but only two listed for '84-'86. All of which mount on the left front inner fender, one for w/o cruise and one for with cruise. The one for cruise is shaped to fit the area above the servo. Just bought one and the only question asked was with cruise or without. Mine is a '86 T/A....
Just curious to know for sure because I'm kinda a restoration buff and want to have the correct one
Old part listed is#10078368 and #10078369
New part number for w/cruise is #10035811
