Iroc Racing!

This is a book I've had since high school.
I purchased it at a grade school book sale.
Just thought I'd share a little history.

Great pics, man. When I was a kid, I went to Michigan International Speedway and watched an IROC race. I even got this groovy black T-shirt with a race IROC on the front that said "Heartbeat of America" and "IROC 'n Roll" on the back. Good times.

The IROC's did have 355's but the block was a 350 and consumer's would see the ad and go in and want what the pro's were racing. So GM said 350's in the ad's so the public wouldn't be confused between 350 and 355.

Does chevy make a big block as low as 355 (I know the 348 but that was the old big block engine's and would require something like a .050 bore to be a 355.) Sorry about that I know that they didn't use the big blocks I just hate it when people say small block 350. Or what really gets me is the guys that say small block 305 or 283.

Later, Garrett

Yep, IROC facility was in Tinton Falls NJ (according to Camaro, the third Generation by Michael Lamm). Chassis by Banjo Mathews (Asheville NC), then shipped to Tinton Falls for assy. Engines from KATECH Inc. in Mt. Clemens MI. 150 hours to assemble each engine including 3 hrs on the dyno. Engines were tuned to within +/- 5 hp (conservatively put at 420 hp @ 6800 rpms, peak torque 405 lbs-ft @ 4800 rpms).
