3rd gen SLP question......
I was watching a show on speedvision the other day all about 3rd gen firebirds......they were really getting into the formula. Anyways, they said on the show that 1989 was the first year that GM gave slp the go ahead and see what they could do with the 305 in a selected amount of formulas, but that they couldnt put any emblems or insignias on the car at all, GM forbid them to. Slp built stainless steel exhaust systems, fooled around with the tpi setup and the ws6 option. Now, my question is...i have infact checked this out and it is true...everything that this show was saying. But, how would you go about figuring out if your 3rd gen formula went to slp if there is no emblems or anything on the car???? They say that 1989 was the first year that they did this...so it couldnt be 1987-88.....and in 91 SLP built the formula firehawk. Please if anyone has any info on this....please let me know asap. Thanks

Yes, they are talking about the "SLP Package". It was a package of parts that SLP engineered for the 305 and 350's and you could order your car with the package new, or buy the package out of the GM performance parts catalog to add on later.
BTW, what show was this? Did you get it on tape? What day and time/zone?

It was a show on speedvision called "American muscle car"......i believe anyways. It talked about the formula and then it got into the firehawk. Was a really good show. Went into detail about production of the 92 firehawk...and the engine's and options that it went through. This is the second time that this was on......ill have to see if i can tape it next time and make a copy or something. But thanks alot for the reply cause i really wanted to know about this. Cause i know that i have flowmaster cat back exhaust,.......but i know that the cat and the y pipe is not stock.......i checked that out already. btw......92gta........you have a really nice firehawk there....hang on to her.......it wil be worth some big $$ if not already. Thanks again.
Lots of interest in the 3rd gen on those auto TV shows now, I have also noticed not so many in our local paper either, many people hanging on to them now. A '92 RS 88K mile, clean, 305 TBI recently sold for $6500 out here, that is a lot of bank for that car.
I have a copy of the show on VHS. It was sent to me by the producer, because my car was showed for a mere 5 seconds
