Is my car special order?

My car is a no A/C, no radio, 4-cyl, 4-spd 1984 SC. How can I tell if this is a special order car? Only #'s left intact is the vin. I can only assume this would be a special order, since noone in the their right mind would buy this off the lot.

OK my reply may not be completely helpful but I hope it leads you in the right direction:

I remember reading on a different thread that special order camaros and off-the-lot camaros had different RPO's to distinguish between the two. I can't find the thread, and I don't remember the RPO's. but I remember it was something like ??Y for off-the-lot cars and ??Z for special orders. It may have been something like 1XY ans 1XZ. If anyone else knows what I'm talking about, and if it applies to this year, please post it here.

RPO 1AZ=customer ordered vehicle
RPO 1AY=dealer ordered vehicle

Your car almost has to be customer ordered, no dealer in their right mind would order a car without a radio.

I figured it was a special order car. Never seen a "totally" stripped Camaro before. Guess I have the most undesirable Camaro ever!!! Thanks for your replies guys!! The RPO codes are no where to be found in the console compartment. Therefore...will never really know if it's an actual special order car. Oh well!

If I remember correctly the 82-84 cars did not come with RPO codes... only a badge on the rad support, and even then only a few select codes are there.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a dealer ordered car, I'm sure they would've liked a "stripper" model on the lot to show budget concious consumers that they could have a cool car for little $$

Your car could have been ordered by a dealer as a "price leader" model that they may have ordered for advertising in local papers at a low price to lure buyers in to buy more expensive models. I saw a '85 new on a dealers lot in '85 like this, it was stripped, 4-cyl, manual trans., base hub caps no options at all. it was at a large dealer in the Milwaukee area. Chris

84 was the first year for cars to receive the rpo decal inside the center console. 84 was also the last year for the tag on the core support.

You guys are saying there's a chance the RPO codes could still be on the rad. support?

No lie about the car being a possible "price leader". KBB values it at only $688 in new condition.

Don't worry about it!! We (car and me) plan on being together for a long time to come. All kinds of goodies are in store for it over the next several years. Unless a 82-83 Z28 comes along real cheap.
