L98 is the engine code for the 350TPI. B2L is the L98 engine package. This package in 1987 at least, included 4 wheel discs, oil cooler, BW 9 bolt, 3.27 ratio, ect... They were opions that went along with the 5.7L engine.

I haven't heard this one in a while.
Basically L98 is the engine code.
B2L is listed in addition for various reasons. Whether it identified options that were standard with the L98, or whether it denoted the L98 installed in the Fbody platform, is anyones guess. It makes about as much sense as MX0 and MD8 both indicate a 4 speed auto tranny.

The package details varied from year to year.
But the explanation is correct, that L98 is the engine, and B2L is the package that installed it in a car.

Doesn't it have something to do with engine makeup? One being for the Camaro's B2L/L98-iron heads&exhaust manifolds, and different internals) whereas the corvette L98 has aluminum heads & exh manifolds plus different internals?

It's the same thing as Extra Value meals. When you order a #1 you get a Big Mac, fries and a drink.
When you order a B2L, you get an L98, the "fries" and the "drink". NOT just the L98.

The 2.73 and 2.77 rear gears are great for hurtling down the interstate.
The L98 appeared first appeared in the 1985 Corvette.
With IRON heads.
The aluminum heads didn't come until mid-way through the 1986 model year and if I remember correctly only on convertibles. Or vice-versa. The point is all the 'Vettes didn't get the aluminum heads the first year they were used.
Supposedly, the 1987 model year 'Vettes all got aluminum heads.
B2L is the package for the L98 engine in the f-body.
I don't recall any other Chevy smallblock engine code beginning with anything other than an 'L' or a 'Z'.
For those that argue the IRON head 350 TPI engine should not be an L98, remember, the f-body L98 is closer to it's "roots".
So, technically, the ALUMINUM headed 350 TPIs should have been called something OTHER than L98.
After all, in the 1960s, the 375 horse 396 was called an L78 but when optioned with the aluminum heads, it became the L89.

I've been to 130 with my 2.77 and I wimped out, but she had more to go. I've seen tests show 154, and heard stories about 160.
But I've heard stories about boogie men too.
