VIN question

My friend has a 82 Berlinetta, and the fourth digit of his VIN is an "A" instead of "F" like most Camaros. Anyone know what's up? The windshield VIN and the VIN on the door sticker match.

The '82-'84 VIN's were all this way. The fourth digit for the '82-'84 VIN was for the type of restraint system. The code was "A" for manual seat belts. 1985-92 the fourth digit was a carline code.
