I've seen them all (at least anything on tape or TV). The Wraith is available on DVD overseas (R2) but it's nothing fancy
The Luke Skywalker guy?! That would be Mark Hamill

I love "The Wraith", now you made me want to rent it.

Even though its mostly fake, I love the sound that the Wraith's engine. I.R.L. the Wraith is powered by a cosworth headed 16v, twin T-25 turbo charged 2.2L engine. 440bhp.

Wasn't the TA in the big hit yellow?

Also, did anyone see that "blackdog" movie with patrick swazie? A nice a$$ IROC met its maker in that one too.

And in Beverly Hills Cop II, didn't those hitmen who drove the 2nd gen drive a third gen when they were sitting in front of some place??

Screw Hollywood!

Some 3rd gen appearances not yet listed:

I seem to remember a RS Camaro in part of a wimpy race in a Hulk Hogan movie - possibly Suburban Commando.

THere was a '91 Z28 in a show, possibly a made for TV movie about a detective or something that he drove. Didn't get to see the whole show to see if it got in any chases. I think it was either black or gray.

"The A-Team" and "Hardcastle and McCormick" , though neither of which featured F-cars as primary vehicles did use them from time to time in chases. "H&M" had a yellow IROC in one ep. and a black GTA in another. "A team" "borrowed" a black t/A in a cool chase.

Smokey and the Bandit 3 'nuff said

already mentioned...
"Knight Rider" and "Simon and Simon" seem to be the main two shows ever where the fabulous F-cars starred. Thank goodness for "Knight Rider" or the 3rd gen would have even less of a following.

Anybody ever played "Police Quest" PC game? Not the orig released in '87 but the updated version released in early '90s. The officer's "your" personal car was a blue '91 or '92 Z28 coupe.
-----

oops, one more. On "CHiPs" the one officer replaced his 2nd gen with a light blue 3rd gen T/A which probably got used in a chase or 2 but I don't remember.

I was just curious. Anyone ever see an episode of Knight Rider where they actually showed the engine and whatnot? I can't recall a single episode where they actually showed what was under the hood??

I admit in the open that I like Hollywood chase scenes and the fact is, if the car is destroyed on celluloid, it is immortalized whereas if it dies a faceless death on the street it isn't.
Film will live and have impact years beyond I think, although with the sheer number of movies, most people won't be car spotting I suppose, but nonetheless...always loved vehicle chases.
I had though about Black Dog away from my computer as I also own that on Laserdisc. Will have to check The Big Hit again though...been ages since viewed! hehe

In Black Dog, we get to see a funny contradiction...country crooner Randy Travis pilots that F car to 'glory'

Can't find my Big Hit LD...musta lent it out or something...not a good idea. Anyway, I did see Sour Grapes, the comedy with Wings costar Steven Weber, in that Craig Bierko drives an F car but I again have to refresh my memory.
I also think there are more forgotton titles, I'll be keeping an eye out.

I believe they cut to the hood closing scene in the trailer truck only... maybe felt that would be boring for viewers (?!?!)

I also seem to recall Patrick Swayze in another action film where he drove a third gen. Wish I could recall this one, but he was pitted against some ******* feuding and I think his brother Don starred in it as well. Anyone recall?

I could swear I once saw Tom Seleck (sp?) chase an early 3rdGen Z/28 with his Ferrari 328 in Magnum PI... i think it was a maroon-ish color.

I get fun poked at me all the time for watching that show 'cause I'm 17, but its a classic

Tom Selleck. Just saw him promoting Costner's new western on Access Hollywood.
I watched it. Anything with an exotic caught my attention. I can't recall that now but there was a late 80s short lived show where the star drove a Porsche in 959 trim but was all primer so it was like it was an unfinished kitcar (959s were never sold in the USA due to the crash testing not done (cost))

>> According to EXCELLENCE magazine, a nice law change has allowed 959s to NOW be legal in the States...but at $400,000, you will need to trade more then a few Firebirds! hehe)<<

I watched The Matrix the other day and at the very end I think I may have spotted a Black and gold Firebird in the background. Its across the intersection at the end, Right after Neo hangs up the phone, tha camera pans and you can see it up front.

Obviously FD 2, saw that only weeks back, however, that car was less then prestine. The driver was probably Hollywood's stereotypical F car owner??? hehe

I just replaced my Big Hit on DVD and I love playing the Formula scenes over and over... that car kicks for a 305?! There is no hood bulge so I assume it's not the 5.7, but on TAs, that's often the case.
One glaring error is continuity for the action scene... Once the car is sideswipped, the whole driver's side bumper is torn apart, yet subsequent scenes right up to the car sitting on the cliff tree branch and falling, is in it's original condition!! How can that not bother the viewer?? Still, enjoyable chase, but the music I can live w/o.

Theres an 83 Daytona 500 Pace car T/A in the 1984 movie "Alphabet City," staring Vincent Spano, (Alive, 1992) Michael Winslow,(All the Police Academy's as the "Sound Effects Guy") and Jamie Gertz. (Too many to list) The car is even on the cover of the VHS box. Spano plays the mobster who drives the limited edition Firebird through the dark streets of lower Manhatten, further perpetuating the Italian American/3rd gen stereotype. The car receives a good amount of footage, and it even has an early cell phone! Plus, it never gets wrecked. Definately a "B" movie, but worth a look for the 3rd gen. Anyone here ever seen it?

In the movie "Office Space" at the very beginning it shows Zamir (sp???) stuck in traffic. He has a white late 80's firebird. In Terminator 2, a dark green firebird that looks just like mine drives behind Arnold for a couple of seconds. I know these are minor but....

No way, not car shows... if they are showing it at 8am on a saturday.... then that means they will never show it. Also, mondays at 8, put on the speed channel. They have auto focus hour and its all car shows. Hot rod tv and american muscle car... very sweet shows! every day at 8. Im gunna call up american muscle car and see if they have a thirdgen movie, cause i saw they had a GN.

Theres a burgundy 87 IROC in the 80's movie "Adventures In Babysitting" with Elizabeth Shue. The car appears briefly in the beginning of the movie, and once in the end. It's driven by her boyfriend, and bears the vanity plates "SO COOL." The only reason I know all this is because I had a car exactly like it (minus the queer tags) and the movie came on The Superstation or one of those movie channels. Also, the movie
"Cannonball Run II" has a couple of thirdgens, one of which is a Firebird cop car. Don't think they ever had such a thing, did they? There's also a good episode of Saturday Night Live that makes fun of Neil Armstrong. Some guys go by his house in a red IROC, and smash his rocketship mailbox with a baseball bat.

Yes, Arizona's Border Patrol as featured in Motor Trend were Firebirds.

Also see the movie Malibu Express if your of age for some racing of a Mecham TA race car...VERY sweet!

I saw matrix reloaded tongiht Crappy movie but near the end on the freeway chase i had tears in my eye when they trashed that black 68 firebird especialy since i have a 68 firebird it made it that much harder for me. Why would they total those cars??? I know when i get a chance im going to register my cars with the motion picture association if they use your car you get like 500 bucks a day and if they total it you can name the price. I guess if they gave me like 20,000 cash i MIGHT let them total my car i dought it but it would be hard to resist.

First gens don't qulaify though. What I liked about ME is that it also featured an 80s Eldorado which I also owned, but mine was far nicer then the stock one also featured in James Caan's (Michael Mann's) THIEF from 1980.

Beautiful woman who take off their clothes is also a good reason hehe

Here's the cover shot link and notice the Mecham Firebird in the upper right corner>

I was watching Seinfeld and Kramer got a van and was trying to parallel-park between a maroon Camaro sport coupe and some other car, he went forwards and backwards in the space trashing the front of the Camaro and the back of the other car.

Goliath, the acid dip, and I think one more time, can't remember though. Wonder how many Thirdgen TA's got trashed in the filming of Knight Rider.
Actually dude they wrecked a ton of thirdgens made up to look like KITT. Several of them didn't have any interior to speak of. And the "turbo boost" shots are thirdgens being jumped off of ramps. And dude even a uni-body car with a cage in it is still going to be junk when you are done jumping it. I have some production photos and there is more than one car used to make it.

The ones that didn't get trashed there were about six of at any given time. GM also ordered their destruction when the show was over. That's why in 1990 when they did the Knight Rider 2000 TV movie they had to build an entirely knew car and come up with a story for why they old one couldn't be shown. The two shots you see of the old car are all from stock footage from the earlier seasons of the TV show. No new footage was made for it.

IF you want to talk about TV time I would have to say that shows in the 80's plus all the time you saw thirdgens on Knight Rider and ones in the background as well as KITT, you actually have more TV air time for thirdgens than any other generation. It's just nothing new is made that really gives them the respect they deserve.

1st gens are the most desired. But any 60's car gets points for being a performance car even though this is not necessarily the case. The 2nd gens may have points for styling and many adults today grew up with them, but the fact is the thirdgen was superior. 4th gens have ok styling but they are more desireable for the raw performance which only a few older models of any kind can match And I think thirdgens make a superior project car due to the interchangability with fourth gen parts make them the car to have for American Muscle other than the Mustang.

Fox body Mustangs have great performance but the interiors are just as cheap and they lack styling in my opinion. I had one and although it was fun to drive I didn't feel as cool as I do in my thirdgen due to the fact that Fox bodies especially the notchbacks are just damned ugly. The only two cars that stood out in the 80's for looks are the Firebirds/Camaros and the Corvette.
