I suppose it's possible that the S/E's had color coded shift *****. They did have color coded wheel caps and inserts for the door handles. T/A's did not. I suppose they might have done it for the shifter. But yeah, the ones I have look silver, but they are faded red.
As far as stuff from the 2nd gen, yeah, the LG4 was in the Camaros. Pontiacs had Pontiac engines still.
They did take some styling cues. The taillights look similar, the bulge hood on the T/A's was supposed to be for the turbo motor in 80-81, fender vents.
They had optional snowflake rims in 82, they could have been the same ones as 2nd gen.

Hi all!
The picture of the second gen bird shifter emblem was used by Pontiac from 1970 to 1972, then changed to the red Pontiac crest from 1973 to 1975, then changed back to the bird for 1976 to 1981.
I have never seen it used in a third gen. All the early third gen Birds had either the red Pontiac crest or the gold crest. The silver Pontiac crests have always been faded red that I too have found! They had some red still in them!
The second gen bird emblems are from what I've seen in person, and off the Pontiac parts book!
Hope this helps,
George

No "Bird" buttons at all on any model third gens.
All were the Pontiac crest.
The shifter and button were gone and replaced with the T shifter when the 700R4 was introduced for 83.
It still may have been used in 83 as the 200C was still available along with the 700R4 on exports only.
