mine had a red arrowhead decal on its shifter ****
yours isn't a trans am, my trans am didn't have the buldged hood so I doubt your firebird originally had one, as for the grafics, 83 was the first year for them, I'de say you have a nice clone
x87 I believe is the s/e

pretty plain and simple ..... W87 ... is a trans am X87 was used on 79 80 81 trans am's for special editions, like pace cars, 10th anniversaries ect. but I can't say I have ever seen a 82 up using X87 on a trans am including even the 15th anniversary car it was a W87 as well, mine never had door panel bags as well.
if even special edition 82 through 84 trans am's had X87 then why wouldn't the recarro's be X87's.
I dont think the date stamped hood means a thing, my 84 trans am's tail lamps are stamped 82 but does that mean they have been changed, NO because I bought the car new, I think it means its a style that dates back to 82, check your tail lights are they black tinted or more of a red shade.
I had two friends with crossfire 82 trans am's both had the buldged hood, I've seen several 82 LG-4's all had flat hoods what does that tell you, the crossfires got the buldged hood and the carbed ones didnt.
PMD seats dont mean yours is a trans am, the AR9 on your trim tag means your firebird got the upgraded seats is all.
sway bar, can't say I've ever seen a f-body without one.
find your build sheet, or call PMD historical services, 20 says your build sheet does not include ws-4, your X87 is a firebird

your 5th VIN digit is your series code
S=firebird
W=transam
X=S/E
your build tag
C (model year) 08E (time build code)
26D(interior color) 21L (lower color) 21U (upper color)

well now that your officially a expert on the 82 trans am you shouldn't have to ask anymore questions, heck why not write a book and sell it, so we can all learn from what we have read and seen that we are wrong.
Fast68:
I told you last month your car was a '82 Trans Am and not a S/E.

In 82, all LU5 cars got the bulge hood. The early 82 LG4 cars didnt....they got a flat hood. The bulge hood wasnt available until mid-year with the LG4. And yes, it was functional.

Correct (AFAIK) about the timing of the bulged hoods on LG4's. But they were NOT functional in 1982 for LG4's. LG4 and L69 cars had functional hoods in 83 and 84 only.
Mine was not originally functional. Also, there's talk on this thread about the red pontiac emblem on the shift ****. That's not a T/A specific item. All auto 82 Firebirds had them.
WS7 includes rear drum brakes, which is far more common in 82 than WS6. I am WS7 (and glad)

Bulge Hood, aka Sport Hood aka RPO T48:
Included with WS6/WS7 package:
Required on LU5, Non-functional on LG4
T48 Hood Optional: Non WS6/WS7 LG4 Trans Am.
"Flat Hood", aka Standard Hood:
Standard:
Non WS6/WS7 LG4 Trans Am
Firebird & S/E
Any hood shortage is a MYTH.

Air Induction Unit on LU5 is different than the LG4-L69 unit that didn't come out until '83. The rubber intake gasket is diamond shaped and attached to the unit on the LU5. On the LG4-L69, the intake gasket is attached to the air cleaner lid. The LU5 and the LG4-L69 induction units are not interchangable.

does all that info you just replied with here mean that i can find an 83 or possibly 84(if 84 had LGR functional bulge hood) and swap all the parts from that over to my 82 trans am LG4 car's non functioning power bulge hood and carb ?
thanks!

Here is a picture of a red one and the gold one that was on my 82 T/A. Does anyone know why there was two different ones?

I have 6 Red ones and they all came with black stems. The gold one came with a blue stem which I have never seen on another one.
I have the gold shifter button on my 82 Recaro's. All are Van Nuys cars, if it makes a difference.
I agree with 90TA on the induction info.
All '84 Trans Am's LG4 and L69 had the air induction unit. Should be able to swap into an 82. Make sure the solenoid on the unit works.

I've never seen a gold emblem on a shifter before! I do know that the red ones FADE badly. I have three red ones, and they look almost like the gold one after fading.
Perhaps the gold ones came on Recaros and other black/gold T/A's?
Yes, check my sig. That's exactly what I did.

Actually, all 82 Recaros were not built in Van Nuys. A lot of them were built in Norwood. But very correct in saying the shifter button with the gold arrowhead is only found on Recaros. Same for the bowling ball hubcaps. Gold decal for Recaro, red for regular Trans Am.

The Recaro's that I have are all Van Nuys cars and each one has a gold shifter button.
Just thought it might be different between the two plants as I have seen the red button on other Recaro's but only the gold button on Van Nuys built Recaro's so far.

That picture does not show the rest of the shaft. It was taken off for the picture. The emblem changing is one thing, but the shaft should be the same for the same tranny....the 200C in 82.
So your emblem is the Firebird rather than the Pontiac arrow symbol? Never heard of that!

Shaft sould look like:

Of course the asking price is due those KR hacks.
If you have a "Bird" on the button, it would be from a second gen. Have the same on my 79 TA.

If the botton looks like this, it was swapped from a second gen bird.

The second & third gen buttons are the same size, the ***** are slightly different.
As far as models, offhand I think all models. There was a gold bird on the Smokey & the Bandit Editions. The picture was from a 78 TA.
I have the same button on my 79 TA.
