87 GTA 350...should I buy it?

OK....

Don't know where to post this...but,

87 GTA 350....Maroon...very straight body.

Has:

Digital Dash.

Map light cluster.

AC has been removed and is located in the rear hatch area of the vehicle.

Engine hood has insulation missing....

Vehicle has 157000 Miles...and all of the wear associated with that. Door dings...needs paint.....Somebody painted an old Firebird figure on the hood....yuck!!!!!!!

Seats are covered with seatcovers...(wonder why?)

Everything else seams ok...

All of the interior panels are solid and not rattling.

Basically a California car that I can get for

$2000.00...or I can OBO that.

HELP me as it is so tempting.

Thanks,

Marty

If all it needs is a freshening up, get that thing! Talk the owner down to like $1700 or so and take that GTA away from them.

I agree with Ian_F!!!!

Those are some sweet birds and seeing from the mileage all it needs is a good overhual and install the A/c unless you like your car running cool other then that what are you waiting for.
Oh by the description it sounds to be a definite GTA but to be on the safe side look on the top of the glove compartment and where is states the serial it should say "Y84" somewhere, There have been a few people that bought what they believed to be a gta when it really isn't.
There was a guy passing his Firebird off as a gta but im no moron and I knew Gta line started in 87 and his is 86

I'd offer 1300, who lnows whats to go next; engine, tranny, rear end. What ever you do make sure you have money on the side if any of these problems arise.

I went back to see it again today. It's stock as stock can be...with the exception of a shift kit??? and I think it must be a B & M shift kit because it clunks when I shifted it into reverse. Transmission might be screwed up.

The kid who owns it has his dad showing it. Dad keeps going on about the corvette engine and how fast it is ( mind you I've left my car running right next to it.... Dad even thinks it would give me a run for my money.

Definately needs a paintjob as there are numerous door dings and some air-brushed eagle on the hood. ( ugly as sin...I like simple.)

Tires are as new and the rims look good. Ground effects are perfect...dash and all glass are complete.

Again..the a/c is in the back of the car...

I think it would be neat to get it just to refer to when I forget where a part goes on mine. Hey it happens!!!!

Besides my wife has suddenly discovered she likes driving MINE.....timid forest creature gone rabid.

I might offer him 1500 this weekend...this because of the tranny noise. I bet he thrashed it after chirping for the girls when he got the shift kit installed.

Thanks

The clunk could be from the U-joint. On my car the idle was set to high when I got it. So I would shift into reverse and I would get the clunk. I think the reason is because it was shifting at to high an RPM for certain gears.

So your trasmission might be fine.

I had a car that would clunk when I would go from park or neutral to Drive But Reverse to Drive it was fine Never did find out what the problem was, sold it and the tranny went a few months later, but I put 60,000 miles on it with the clunk... the car had 190,000 on it... I think the new owner drove it harder than me.

personally I think it's strange that the guy put a shift kit in a completely stock car. This thing doesn't even have an afterfmarket muffler.....oh wait, it does have 8mm plug-wires.

that tranny clunk is probably torque arm bushing or tranny mount. either way, its an easy fix. buy it, primer it, and beef it up.

Definatley. If the body is in good shape I would do it. The interior on these cars is actually very easy to replace and fairly cheap all things considered.

If it runs good and there is no rust on it I would do it. Any car of this age is going to have problems. Most of them on a running car should be minor.

87 gta

I have an 87 GTA that I paid $ 4,000 mint condition with only 90k on the dash a non-smoker car, from the condition that you described of this 87 I would not pay more than 1K for it, I only paid 1K for an 86 T/A that is clean and 1,300 for an 88 GTA so don't let him get you if you wait and look around that is always a moron that will sell his gta cheap cause he don't know what he has that is how I get all mine cheap. But if you get it I have an 88 gta that I am parting out that is in pretty good shape. I'm keeping the engine, trans, rear, hood and nose but the rest is up for grabs.

I stopped at a dealership today to look at an 87 IROC 76,000 miles, had t-tops 305 TPI, auto loaded, overhead console self dimming rear view mirror the works... let me put it this way, it was rough on the edges, definately needed to be gone through, I would estimate about $5,000 to put to original perfectect condition, needed a dash pad, a major cleaning off the undercoating from under the hood, ran good, but in need of help. asking $7,500 :sillylol:

hope that helps shed some light :
