Crossfire Injection
Crossfire Injection
Hello All. I am new to this site, so I hope this isn't a worn out subject but here we go.....My son has an 83 TA with the infamous crossfire injection. Being this is was his first car he doesn't want to ever get rid of it. He really wants to keep it original but should he. I have had this car to many many places to try and get it to run correctly. I have heard different reasons on why it doesn't. None the same. Is there any one that truly knows this engine? We go to the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton every year and you never see a crossfire. So any guidance would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

what type of problems are you having? I have just completed a 83 cfi rebuilt that was previously taken apart by someone else 3 years ago.(left out in hte front yard in a trash bag) I have built the engine back from picts and trial and error. I also had to fab a engine wiring harness for the engine due to the orginal owner cutting the ECM and sensors out instead of disconnecting them. She is up and running(no check engine lights) rather well and know the headachs you can have with this engine. will be galad to help out any way I can. and yes they do have problems but what car does not that is 20+ young.(I also have a factory shop manual for the 83 Firebird model year)

I have a buddy who has an 82 with a bigger cam and the Cross fire is modified. He bored out the throttle bodies and ported the intake and heads. I could probably help too. One of the probs. he had was a bog off idle. It was due to a drop in fuel pressure. He remedied that with a new Fuel pump and it runs real good. The only problem he has now is his car is still slow

Your best place beleive or not is a Corvette performance shop. They know these engines inside & out Even though the 305 CF was never in their cars. They are use to dealing with the L93s which were the CF 350s.

Ask all the problems that the car has on the Tech/General Engine board.
I agree with Krazzycowgirl on taking it to a 'Vette shop. That is where I would take mine if I didn't work on my own. They are about the only ones that know what they are doing with the Crossfire engine. Especially when it comes to synchronizing the throttle bodies.
I commend him for wanting to keep the engine original. For your sons first, the car is fast enough.
He doesn't have to get nowhere first.
What kind of problems are you having with it.

Yea, check out Corvette places. They see alot of the Cross Fire 350s, and they are basically the same between the two cars. This is a Corvette forum that has helped me alot with my engine (not a CF, but was similar to a vette motor) so you should check them out.

And YES, Corvette owners DO work on their own cars sometimes, lol

When the new Corvette appeared for 1984, it had the Crossfire engine, but I didn't know what other cars used it or how long. It was praised in the press but as soon as it was gone, no one missed it!

It's funny that the 1984 Corvette had CFI. Because the 1984 Trans-AM did not. Even though they did in 82-83.
