How come in almost all books on third gen i read they refer to the 350 tpi as B2L and ill maybe see L98 sometimes...yet everyone says L98 on this board...just curious cause on most articles/books/info i see the 350 tpi refered to as the B2L option

as to why the books refer to it that way , i dont know. but the actual engine code is L98. the package is B2L. youll notice that virtually all (if not all) chevrolet engine codes begin with the letter L.

ah makes sense...LS1 LS5 LS6 LT1 LB9 LT4....i guess L98 fits right in then!
thanks for clearing it up

That is the GM RPO code for the L98 engine.
B2L= Performance Package, Engine Package V8, 5.7L

"L" is the first letter of all the engine RPO codes.
L98 is the engine; B2L is the package that it was installed as part of: a certain gear ratio, the oil cooler, instrumentation, etc.

It's been mentioned about B2L being the 350 package. It hasn't been mentioned what was included with the B2L package. I don't have any reference material with me (traveling), but K34, engine oil cooler, was part of the B2L package. There are more but this is an example.

B2L was an RPO package that the L98 was included with... if you wanted the 350 (L98) you had to have the B2L RPO as well becasue it came with the rest of the stuff required with the 350.
