3rd Gen's doing the numbers !
Anyone been on E-Bay lately ? If not, check out the
prices that 3rd gen cars are doing. Don't mean to brag but
as I predicted about a year or so ago, 3rd gen prices would
be on the rise. That was an understatement...
As a matter of fact, I have seen figures approaching $ 5000.00
for many Z-28's and T/A 's at the Auctions I frequent. Some
of these cars were 20 footers and needed some TLC, but
nonetheless still sold for money ranging from 2000 - 5000.
On E-bay, I have watched IROC's doing 7 to 9 G's !
As the people who owned these cars when they were in their
twenties approach the forties, like all generations before them,
they wish to recapture their youth and the 3rd Gen cars are
a big part of that memory. I predict this trend will continue
to grow over the next 5 to ten years.
Hold on to em boys, because they are likely to go ballistic
in the next decade.
John B. PS. I'm sure glad I kept my 5-spd 84-Z

I've been watching the price increase on IROC-Z's and later Z28's(L98's especially, and some LB9 M5's) for 4 years now, that's what happens.
Not good for me since I'm looking for one.

Yep, they are really going up. If I come across a 1987 as you have described, I'll buy it and let you know asap.
I saw a 140,000 mile 85 IROC 5-spd with an LG-4 do $3850.00
at Pade Auto auction ( in Pa ) on Wed. I thought that was
a lot of moola ....
It's kind of funny but I still get more attention with my 84-Z
than my 97 Z-28 with a Wings West kit and spoiler with wheels.
They are both black and look good. People tell me all the
time about how much they like black cars. They might look
good when clean, but when dirty ........ Oh Boy !
In the end, they still like the 84 Z-28.

Hmm....maybe I shouldn't have put the 350 and 6 speed in my '84. Although the original L69 and 5 speed were in the 130k mile range so I think the car's probably worth more now with the fresh motor and tranny. It's still pretty cool to see thirdgen prices on the rise though. I think even the "customized" ones like mine will start fetching decent prices (to the right people of course) in the coming years. It's a fun phenomenon to watch that's for sure!

Air Adam,
To answer your question about L-69's in Z's and T/A's.
There is no doubt that if you have a #'s matching, all original
( not heavily modded w/AC and smog devices still in
place ) L-69, with the dual snorkel air cleaner intact, will
be the most sought after car by purists with the exception
of some IROC's and GTA cars.
All of this brings me to my personal dilema - ?????????
Do I keep my all original 84 L-69 5spd with AC and smog
devices, or do I rip it all out and build a 450 HP monster ?
One side says- Just do it, and the other side says - leave
it stock, because in 5 years it will be worth a lot more .
What does everyone else think ? Should I modify, or
live with what I have and protect my investment ?
If you look at 1st Gen values, it's the original #'s matching
cars that are going for big money.
Oh, by the way. I'll sell my car for 3500.00 and end my dilema
if anyone one is interested. It's black, t-tops, 5-spd. 3.73
camel int, many options, perfect body, original stripe and
wheels. Rustproofed, no leaks, and no rattles ( hard to
believe I know ) with 135,000. Only changes are the CD
player and a Hurst billet Plus shifter.

Adam,
The 83 L-69's are virtually non-existant. As a matter of fact,
after looking at 9000 cars a week at Auctions, and 4 or 5 times a year at Carlisle, I have not seen a 1983 HO. car in the last 4 years.
That should tell you something huh ? As for the air ducts,
always try E-Bay. You might get lucky and find a pair. I
wonder if you could use (2) of the right side ducts to
complete the set-up ? If you don't have the dual snorkel
air cleaner, try E-Bay as well for that.
I really want to modify my car and get rid of all the polution
equipment. It would be so much easier to work on and
not to mention more enjoyable ( at least to me )
One alternative would be to keep all of the stock equipment
and L-69 set aside. That way, if a purist wanted to buy
my car, I could give all of that with it.
Oh well, decisions, decisions

I've modified mine.. but I just keep all the original parts around 'just incase'
I still have the dual snorkel air cleaner, and the drivers side scoop, but need the other scoop and both ducts.
As far as I know, the car I got was 100% original at the time... I know the engine is original, Im sure the trans and axle are too.
Only thing un-original was the emitions stuff... well, it was original, but the old owner beat the things into the ground... the AIR lines were all bent, broken and mangled... those will prolly be the hardest parts to find later too.

AWWWW Crap lol... boguht out 1985 sc which i see none oh (lg4 4-speed) is a rust bucket with a cracked stearig box on 170k miles and doesnt start oh but it was a snag 300 buks ran when we bought it its too late for her body but shes gona live a sweat afterlife full race bbc drag car hauled in a trailer liveing it up we are comited to makeing it better for this tired old 85. but hell it served 19 comeing on 20 years as a daily driver i think this tired old third gen deserves it . plus where do you fidn a car that runs for 300 bucks! its paint isnt shiney but its on there and no peals or cracks! just a little dull tis got little rust spots i think some bonda word get some factory rims on here and fix the lg4 and i bet it could go for big money but its got centimental valuesi dont think i could see that old sc leave the yard it would leave a void that i would need another clunker to fill.. i dot nkow if we should make her full race or restore her. i saw we go full race but leave that all steal body for some reason i think a guted out race car with all the fixins and a dull paint old with little minute rust spots would be a trip to see at the track lol
