whats the probability?
ok so here is my situation i am looking for an 85 iroc, 5 speed, L69 engine, 3.73 posi rear, 4 wheel disc brakes, oh yea and t-tops of course
but i think all irocs came with t-tops right? correct me if i'm wrong but anyway i wanted to know how many of these cars were made because i am having some trouble finding a like that. exterior color and interior color doesn't matter to me, paint condition and stuff like that doesn't matter cause i'm willing to do restoration but anyway any help on how i would go about finding a car like this or how many were made would be greatly appreciated. thanx.
,nick
oh i forgot to mention i have been checkin local paper ads, magazine ads and ebay but i haven't had any luck

Well only 2,497 L69's were built in 1985. According to the Camaro White book they were all Iroc-z's. Not many, but you should still be able to find one like that sooner or later.

Nope. T-tops were never standard on any third gen Camaro. In 1985, they were an $821 option on any Camaro.

Why the L69? I have one, yea its a good motor, but why not the TPI 305? 1985, IIRC, was the year that the 305 TPI had the most power. 220hp I think. Thats 30 more than the L69!
I still think the L69 is cooler though, but I might be biased

if you are eventually gonna swap in an lt1, then why go through the trouble of searching for an 85 L69 car when you could find something with a different engine sooner?
don't take this the wrong way, just my opinion...

Yup, you could buy anything and then just swap the LT1 in. Why limit yourself? Those 305 H.O cars should be left stock (engine mostly at least) and in good condition if they are. They were pretty rare considering and were good performers at the time.

The better is TPI, because it is built for high pressure fuel injection, if that alone.

And to IROCZBeast, since L69s were fairly hard to come by in most years, to find one as performance-option-loaded as what you're looking for would be even MORE rare than most. That would be a "restoration" car, not one for swapping out the motor.
But if you HAD to change it, that block is the same high-compression block as the 305 TPI(LB9), so it would be a good one to rebuild(if necessary) and convert.
But I like 'em stock, so it's just my .02

I actually should have said I did have an L69 in my car. I still have it too, but its just not in the car.
The 350 thats in it (a lame, stock '70s peice) is only a temporary band aid while my L69 is being rebuilt. I loved that engine... it really screamed. Way more fun than this 350 is.
Anyway... even if he doesn't keep the L69 in the car, it would still be a good base for a performance car, because it will have either the 3.42 or 3.73 rear end.
I agree with most of these guys though, a healthy L69 car, especially one from any year but '84, is going to be very hard to find. And even more expensive.
BUT.... it will only drive up the value of my car if there is one less
