Has anyone heard of 25 Trans Am GTA's that were released in1986? If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate it.

the 86 GTAs go in the same file with all the 350 5speed cars, never happened.

 

There may have been a handful of Trans Ams with 350s and GTA style options (some test mule cars) but there were NEVER any 86 GTAs... 1st year of GTA production was 87.

I have a 86 Trans Am with a 305 TPI and all the performance packages. I was misinformed on the GTA information I suppose, but when Iwent to the GM factory information, they were telling me that it was just the standard Trans Am. But this didn't make sense to me since I know I have the Performance Sound and all that good junk. It's just kinda hard to get any good information from those guys.

 

Ok I had one guy try to sell me an '86 GTA' with a v6 and a 5 speed.

 

I don't think they even came in a manual. I see stupid offers all the time that anyone who knows anything is going to tell them they're full of it. Why can't people be honest.

Also my car's got the Digital Dash but I don't know that that means anything

 

Last time I checked GTAs never came with V6s... well, except for the 89 Turbo, but that's a different story... there was a guy in a local classified paper for like a year trying to sell an IROC with a V6 too...

GTA's were available with a 5 speed manual, but only if it came with a 305... I have one, and its much more fun than an auto!

Just curious tho... are you sure your car is an 86? Its possible that its actually an 87 and the previous owner thought it was 86???? Trying running the VIN # on the VIN decoder on this site.

 

I have seen a few 86 T/As on sale here in SoCal w/ the digital dash, so I do believe it could be ordered in 86, but it was officially "released" in 87.

 

I'm pretty sure it's an 86. I ran the VIN decoder which told me it was an 86 but not much else other than the engine. When I talked to the people at GM they told me that it was just a standard Trans Am (which they said, they found out from running the VIN) but it came with Performance Sound, Performance Suspension, and a sport package. My boyfriend has the origional sale sticker that was in the car when it was new. We're going to have to find it and find out exactly what it came with.

 

My 86 has all that, no digital dash. Sounds like its just a fully loaded car, no big deal IMHO.
