Junk yard jewels?

Was looking for a few good 80's Camaro junk yard parts and came across a couple of items that I havent seen before. Probably not rare (?), but in pretty good shape.

The first one was what looks to be a factory cassette stereo / all in one control, mounted in front of the gear selector on a free standing support stem in the center column. Not mounted like most below the a/c temp control panel in the center column molding. If this is aftermarket, it sure looks good.

The other looks like a factory mounted folding, carpeted rear hatch panel cover, not the pull out curtain type.

Anyone own these options? Are they worth picking? Thanks!

The radio control I think came in the 83 Berlinetta's. I'm not sure what other years.

The plastic rear hatch cover is factory, and requires you to also get the rear interior panel, as it has the lip that the shelf stops on. The models with that option also had 4 bolts resistance welded into the back part of the fuel tank hump for the door hinges to bolt to, and a few tabs on the back inside of the car for the hatch to sit on, and the lock to engage into.

It is a cool item, but not easy to swap into a car that didn't come with it.

I found the two sets of rear hatch panel covers in two side by side junked Camaro's. They appeared to have the exact same plastic trim pieces etc. At the time I wasnt real sure what I was looking at and I didnt know to check if they did or did not have a locking key slot but, just as soon as I harvest them I will!

Thanks! I do appreciate the feedback!

Like this one? it was a factory option, like previously stated if you are going to grab them also grab the panel that is right behind the tail lights for so it will have the ledge for the door to rest on. Also there are 2 styles 82-85 and 86-92 due to the power pull down assembly needing more room.

When I found the folding panels I was really looking for a rear hatch motor cover panel. I did notice that the hatch motor cover panel did have the supporting lip for the fold down panel to rest on.

Thanks for the great info!!

I have only seen one other radio control on the pedistal (sp?) on the console waaaaay back in high school. I was beginning to doubt my memory. Could not have been too many like that made.

Owned an 86 Berlinetta for @ 8 months in 92. It had the pedestal radio. Wish I still owned the car.....

That style pedestal radio only came in 84-86 Berlinettas with the digital dashes. Grab the "pod" controls on either side of the inst cluster and the digital cluster if possible. They bring a premium on the auction sites and there are quite a few people out there looking for working replacements.esp the turn signal pod.

Great feedback!

The pedestal radio control did get my attention. Again, at the time I didnt know but, it did look factory. The digital cluster that appears to go with the radio / stereo system is there also. However, the steering column is out of the car. Was there also a control on the turn signal lever? Guess I'll grab the center column and the dash as well since it's kind of unique. Does anyone know if the wiring harness needs to be pulled as well?

On 84-86 Berlinettas, the Dash is mostly digital(speedo, tach) also had a couple analog gauges. The turn signal control is in the pod to the left of the cluster and also contains cruise control buttons. No signal lever on the column. The right pod has controls for heater, defrost and a/c. Everything for the radio in in the center including the harness. Resale value on the cluster, pod controls, and stereo can be very good. Not produced in great numbers and only for 3 years. Usually the turn signal controls are the first to go. They won't auto cancel or stay on without holding the **** up or down. So there are quite a few people looking for these as they are used quite often each day.

I have also run across a couple of those folding rear cargo covers that were a part of the Bose stereo option and have a Bose speaker and amp mounted on each side of the cover.
