What would this car be worth?

I'm picking up pretty unusual car soon and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. It's tough to figure out what it's worth because you never seen anything like it for sale.

The car is an '83 Berlinetta and it has been sitting in storage since 1984. The car was in a minor accident (driver's fender) in '84 and was sent to a shop to get fixed. The repairs were made but the sheet metal wasn't put back on. In fact, the car has a new GM fender, hood, and front bumper cover that were bought that year but never painted or installed. After that, the car was forgotten about. It's actually still at the shop that repaired it.

For some reason, most of the interior of the car was removed. The car is basically a shell right now. There are boxes of parts that come along with it but there are definitely a lot of pieces missing. However, it wouldn't be any problem for me to get all the pieces it needs to be put back together.

Now this it where it gets hard to figure out the value. This is a 2.8 V6 Belinetta so it's nothing special. However, it has only 3400 original miles!!! Of course, the car is in PERFECT condition except it needs to be put back together.

If this car was a V8 IROC or Z28 it would be easier to figure out the value.
Of course, an '83 Belinetta with a V6 isn't worth much. However, a perfect one with only 3400 miles has to be worth something!!!

I'm just looking for some opinions on what this car would be worth if it were completed. I think I'd like to keep it and restore it somewhere down the road but I don't know if it's worth messing with.

Some pics would help as cars this old tend tend to be worth more on looks more than Blue Blue type valuations (to me anyway). I would say not much more than $1200 considering there is body work to be done.

Wow, what an interesting story. First of all I would say BUY IT!

You are right the value is a sticky subject.

It sounds like a perfect stock restoration candidate. You have period correct NOS GM replacement parts. The car is low mileage and was stored indoors. Those are the big $ selling points.

The fact that it is a V6 and is missing its interior brings that price back down.

If I had to throw out a # I would say $1,500. Again this is just a guess. It looks like you have picked up plenty of thirdgens so you would probably know the going rate better than I would.

Please let us know how this turns out. I would love to see pictures. Good luck.

Actually, I already know what I'm getting the car for. I'm looking for opinions on what it would be worth when it's completed. I basically need to know what a MINT '83 Berlinetta with a V6 and only 3400 miles is worth.

Unfortunately, it won't be worth much. While it may be a bit rare (due to itls low mileage) it's not a particularly desireable car.

I have a very low mileage 1980 Ford Granada 2 door coupe "radio delete" with a 250 inline 6 in excellent shape that I keep only for sentimental reasons (my mother's old car). Very few made in it's build, fewer yet left running on the road. In spite of it's low mileage, it's appraised value is less than the amount I pay to insure it each year.

I use it only for winter driving.

Im puzzled why a minor accident would require the removal of the interior. A car that has been "sitting in storage" for 20 years may have some problems of its own. Was it properly prepared for this or just shoved in the corner ? It may have some unseen ailments and was going to be parted out, who knows. Does it run ?

I would rather have a unique model like the berli rather than something everyone and their brother drives. Sure the upper end models have the performance but these cars (Sport Coupes) are for driving you places and not necessarily for racing to places.

If your looking for a return on investment, I would look elsewhere, perhaps a T-bill or CD

Yeah, I'd be interested to hear the story behind it myself. The guy I'm buying it from bought an old repair shop next door to the building he's in now. He said the guy that onwed the building was really wierd. The building was actually completely stuffed with junk and the guy did all his work outside. He said he had to hire some guys to come in and clean it up and it took them a couple weeks. I guess you couldn't even move inside. He said they were just slowly cleaning out all the junk when they starting find cars buried under everything as well. This Berlinetta was actually sitting beside a very nice 20,000 mile '80 Trans Am.

Once I get the car home I can figure out how much money it will take to get the car back to "showroom new" condition. If it's worth restoring it I will. I've got three other very rare cars to restore ahead of it so I won't get to it any time soon.

I'm actually putting together what has to be one of the rarest collections of thirdgen cars in the world and this Berlinetta could be an interesting addition to the collection. The car isn't anything really rare like some of my other cars but cars with mileage like this don't come around often. It would definitely be an interesting piece of thirdgen history.

Sounds like a nice find. If you're going to restore it, why not just keep it. You've got quite a collection of rare cars now, It'll be sweet when they're restored. What's happening with the '80 TA? Is that already sold?

Lets put it this way in Kelly Blue Book a fully loaded mint condition 1985 berlinetta Camaro with 3500 miles is worth $1700 i understand that it is a different year but that shouldent make that much of a difference. this is perfect condition FULLY loaded , truthfully the value is whatever a person is willing to pay for it ex. ebay
