1982 Trans Ams would have came with the RPO code N89 "bowling ball" ball rims. Standard were 14x7 inch, optional with the WS6/WS7 package were 15x7 inch.

I believe the RPO code for the brushed stainless caps is P20.

When did the N24's become available? I think I read sometime around June or July 1982? Seems like all the Mecham/Macho T/As have N24's.

One thing to note. The N24 code was used on two different rims. '82-84 N24's are the style with the fins but no bowling ball caps. '85-92 N24's are the same as the '84 N78's that look sort of like a pin wheel.

You mean the N24 turbo finned wheels. What i know was on some 82 t/a's there was a shortage at the factory of N89's turbo cast wheels,So these took it's place temporally.Since they were the only wheel on the mse mecham t/a.They came standard on 1983 trans am's and s/e with and without the ws-6/7 suspension option and where optional on 1984 trans am's

So to answer you question

N89 15" turbo cast 82-83
N89 14" turbo cast 82-84
N24 14/15" turbo finned 82-84

1982 trans am's and all s/e's came with 14"/15" N89( turbo cast wheels) some 82 t/a's got the N24 turbo fined wheel.i have only seen a handful with N21's.

80% or so 1983 trans am and s/e got N21 wheels the rest got N89's but not many.

1984 trans am and s/e you could only get the 14" N89's (very rare for 84)
Rest had the N28 5-star Pontiac wheels

My 82-92 Firebird GM parts micro fiches are screwed up then(they are known for errors) It shows 83-84 N24, 84 N78, and 85-92 N24's as being the same as '84 N78's.

That's right! The RPO did change in '85. N28 became N24.

Never heard of N78 though

N90 = Snowflakes for 82, 83.

N24's were also on some 1982 trans am's due to a N89 turbo cast shortage.

ok now im confused even more than ever

turbo fin
turbo cast

and whatever else you guys said

apparently ill never know what came on my 82 t/a then

i want finned cast aluminum 15" wheels, whatever was factory correct for this year and model

what do i do ?

i dont want bowling ball junk those are fugly covers, i want full fin stock factory 82 t/a wheels

i dotn knwo what RPo, or correct name

seems like theres 4 or 5 different of the same freaking wheels

i dont get it

so turbo cast were put on all regular t/a's ? with or without disc rear?

what was factory installed for wheels on a regular 82 t/a with LG4 and thm200c and the biggest sway bars and quickest steering but no rear discs ? look at my signature, thats the car in question

bowling ball ones or no ?

Here's a picture off my micro fiche reader(I really need to get one that prints!)

Picture covers 82-84. Look at the two lower rows. Going from left to right.

Second from last row.

1. N90 "Snowflake rim. Available on base and Firebird S/E.

2. N89 "Turbo Cast" AKA "Bowling Ball" rim. Standard on Firebird S/E and Trans Am. 99% chance your T/A came with these. Available in 14 and 15 inch(WS6/WS7).

Last row.

1. N24 "Turbo Fin" rims. SOME late 82's and most '83 Trans Ams got these. A few 84's got these but it seems most opted for N78's. Available in 14 and 15 inch(WS6/WS7)

2. N96. Rim for a J2000 Sunbird, Fiero. Don't know why its even in there. Ignore.

3. N78 "Hi-tech" rim. Just about every 84 Trans Am came with these. Very popular. Easy to find. Pretty sure these are only in 15 inch. Seems to be no shortage of WS6 by 1984. According to the 1985 and up pictures it became RPO code N24.

I think you have a 2 mixed up with a 7. I double checked my micro fiche and it shows N78 in the pictures and parts discription for 1984. I also ran out to my car and looked at the RPO label on the console door. N78.

EDIT: Just checked my build sheet. N78 HI TECH ALUM wheels

He meant that the N89 bowling ball rims are rare on 84 models. Seems very few had them. Most got N24 or N78 rims. I have only seen one 1984 Trans Am with N89's.

Heres a pic of a 15x7 N89 Turbo Cast/Bowling Ball rim(minus cap) against the factory N78 Hi-Tech rims on my '84 T/A

i want a set of those 15" finned for my 82 t/a bad

probably never going to run across any ever and not for cheap, and dont even want bowling ball caps, just want the plain finned wheels

i just want it to be stock factory correct for an 82, not a fake recaro or kitt or other crap, just a regular t/a nothing special

what type of wheel nuts were used on these wheels ? acorn closed style ? or regular open end style ?

pic ?

thanks

Yeah, I got my set from the Trans Am Nationals.. and I've seen a couple sets at the Jefferson Swap Meet as well as the Iola Car show. I do have to admit that they do look pretty nice on my Camaro... Come to think of it.. my Camaro is almost more of a Trans Am than a Camaro now.. lol.. Most of the repairs I have gotten have been off a T/A. <grin>

If anyone is intrested, I have a set of the "bowling ball" hubcap wheels in 14 inch, with caps, with halfway decent tires for sale.
$250.00 plus shipping.
Not sure what shipping would be though.

Just letting you all know,

George
