Door panels with vinyl seats
Are the door panels in '82 Firebirds with vinyl seats any different than an interior with the cloth seats? Do the vinyl interior door panels still have the cloth part or is it also vinyl? Also, are the sail panel covers cloth or are they in vinyl also? Any one with a vinyl interior that can post pics of your door panels would be great. I'd prefer stock.

If the car has the base el-cheap interior with the vinyl seats with one piece back and square integrated headrest(no hole) then it would have some cheap dialectically pleated vinyl door panels. Camaros and Firebirds share the base level interior.
If the car has the deluxe interior with the "Viscount" PMD seats(like Knight Rider), then it would have nicer door panels with a carpeted bottom, vinyl towards the rear and a L-shaped chrome peice. If the seats are in cloth then the insert inside the L-shape would be cloth to match the seats. If the optional "Viscount" seats with leather seating surfaces and vinyl side bolsters was ordered then the inside would be vinyl.
The sail panels where always covered in the same material as the headliner which is cloth.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about recovering my seats (PMD) in vinyl. They are originally cloth. They are not in bad shape, a few small rips. I just don't like the velour seatcovers they make. I hate velour and the only other option is vinyl so I thought I would go with that. I have the deluxe interior with the carpeted door panels. Would these look stupid with vinyl seats?

I would definately go with the vinyl seats. I went from cloth to vinyl in my '91Z over the winter and EVERYONE thinks it's leather. For the door panels, I just covered them with some grey grained vinyl (you can get from places like Jo-Ann Fabrics, etc.) with a corresponding color (knowing I wouldn't be able to match the black seats exactly).

Looks awesome
so on your door panels...the part that is cloth originally, did you make it vinyl then? It looks like it is a darker color. On my doors I'm not sure if it would look right since I have Dk Charcoal cloth, Dk Charcoal vinyl, Dk Charcoal carpet. If I go with Vinyl where the cloth is, it might be vinyl overkill if you know what I mean.
And since I have a dark interior anyway, I don't really want to offset the cloth part with a lighter color. What do you think??

The reason I changed them from cloth to vinyl is it just didn't look right with the vinyl seats. I went with a dark grey b/c I couldn't find anything that matched any other color in the car exactly, so I decided to go with an accent color. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the dashboard on f-birds is grey, unlike the camaros which are black. You could always try matching some vinyl material up with that, or try for the closest match possible. A third option would be to see if the place that you are getting your vinyl seatcovers from will sell you some extra material to cover the door panels. It is really up to you and what you think will look ok. I went the simple way out, but I have seen door panels covered on this board from mild to wild. If you haven't already, try a search to get more ideas and go from there... Good luck!

Hey thanks. About the dash, Mine is also black. I'll look around on here to see if I can get some more ideas. I thought it might be cool to have a silver like interior, sort of like the '79 Anniversary TA's. Not sure how it would look in a third gen. I'll probably just keep the stock colors.
