Question for you all
Question for you all
I found a 88 Iroc Z with T-tops
The guy who has it is the 3rd owner, hes owned it for 7 years, and has only driven it a few thousand miles in the summer each year. Its been garaged in the winter. The owner is an older guy so it hasnt been beat to **** either.
Its got 113k miles, 305 TPI, 5spd pretty much stock. The paint isnt original, its starting to peel in a few places. On the hood it bubbled up and has some surface rust around the luevres (sorry for spelling) and has a little rust starting to form around the T-Tops. So it needs a paintjob. The interior is very good, the rugs are kinda dirty (as can be expected) but its power everything, everything works, all the gauges work, the AC Works, the dash has one tiny little crack but barely noticeable. The T-tops dont leak.
It has brand new Goodyear Eagles all the way around, new brakes, radiator and altenator. He has new shocks but didnt get them put in, but he will throw them in. The clutch is 6 years old, but probably around 30k miles so its getting close to due. Motor runs good, doesnt smoke.
The car is real clean. I have attached some pics. It also comes with the stock steering wheel, Kenwood CD Player and some other misc. stuff.
He wants 3300 for the car, is it worth it? The Body and undercarriage seem to be in really good shape (see the pics) so especially around here in NY it seems like its hard to find something thats worth the effort of rebuilding down the line.
Note the car also has aluminum driveshaft and posi-rear end. The seller originally wanted 3700 but I offered 3k, and he will go to 3300. Is it worth it?
Feedback would greatly be appreciated.

Its worh whatever your willing to pay for it. I personally would avoid the car altogether, since its a rusting re-paint I would think that if you got the car, your into more work than you expect. There are more than likely places that are not showing yet that will eventually.
Please note that a repaint is not necessarily "bad" My car was repainted in 1998, and wins car-shows, and shows no rust. However the reason for the repaint was due to fading, not to fix rust.
I would suspect that the car in question may have been painted to cover some rusty areas.

I can't tell by the pictures you posted, but look at the rear fender lips for rust bubbles in the paint.. (This is a common rust spot for 3rd gens) If there is rust there, then you might want to pass on the car.. If you don't fix it, it will just keep getting worse. The best fix in this case is new quarter panels.. The body work and paint will set you back be at least $1000 bucks.. Probably more...
I took the pictures that I posted, so I saw the car in person. There is no rust forming in the area you outlined. There are a few spots where the paint is peeling, but no rust other than the hood.
I know going into it that I want to have a professional paint job done in the next year too. The second paint job was done 8-10 years ago, it was before the current owner purchased the car.
I just wanted to get a feel for whether the price was fair or not

If you take the $3300 and spend $2200 on a paint job, $150-250 for carpet, a few hundred for miscellaneous repairs and you'll have about $6000 into a car that has 113k miles, and will still require more $$. For $6k, you can find a car with original paint, no rust and a lot lower miles. I'd keep looking unless this is what you want.
i agree with scottmoyer its 2 much to pay for a car in this condition,
but the good thing about it that its a manual which is not that easy to find,
if u could post thhe RPO codes we can see all options,
and check out camaros on ebay may be u will find one
u like.

Ive been looking for awhile, was about to buy one from ebay in PA and it turned out to be quite different than the auction led me to believe...
It seems that 3rd gens that are worthwhile in the Northeast are few and far between.
