"Automatic Overdrive" shift plate decal

This probably isn't possible but just thought I'd throw this out if anyone can help. Is there anyway to reproduce the white lettering on the automatic shift plate that says "Automatic Overdrive"? This is probably getting too ****, but mine is rubbed off and on another one I have it is pretty faded out.

A local sign shop could make you a decal, or you could try white dry transfer letters with a clear spray over top to protect them.

what is the white dry transfer letters and where would I get them? That is probably what they did at the factory? It's not really a decal, as in a sticker...more like printed on in a way. Mine is completely rubbed off and the other is barley readable. I was thinking maybe scanning it and trying to touch it up and then I could use the dry transfer letters, if I could print it to that. Would this work do you think?

You can get dry transfers at any art store, theyr'e the ones that come on the sheet and you rub them on.

The factory lettering would have been screen-printed.

Another more durable solution, but less factory-appearing, would be to take the plate to an engraving shop and have them cut the letters in, and then you could fill them with thin white paint using a #000 brush.

I thought that was screen printing, but I wasn't sure. Is this white lettering durable or is it easy to rub off?

It rubs off as easily as it rubs on, that's why you'd need to protect it with a heavy coat of clear. It's the cheapest solution I can think of, anyway.

My '86 letttering has rubbed off but my '92 is factory perfect as is the entire interior. This was screen painted on but you could possibly do letter transfer if it will stick to the plastic. The transfer lettering is verry cheap. You could probably test it first and if it works you could do it for probably $10.00.

1982TA, you do know that '82 didn't have an overdrive tranny and consequently didn't have "Automatic Overdrive" on the shift plate?

Yes I know. I do have a shift plate from an 84 that has the overdrive on it. I have a 700R4 in my car vs. the stock 3 speed auto. I figured I'd have everything match since right now "D" is "OD" and "2" is "D" on the stock plate that is there right now. I will also need a shifter since the stock one doesn't have all the notches for an overdrive selection. If I put in the overdrive shift plate I wouldn't be able to shift into "1" since there wouldn't be a notch for it.

I have a shifter out of a 91 Camaro automatic if you want it to replace yours. Not sure if they're the same though.

Does it have overdrive? It might work. I don't need the shift **** or anything, just the shifter assembly.

If you want to retain your '82 shift **** you can use a OD shifter from from a '83-86 Camaro as these were designed for a snap ring to hold the **** like the '82 Firebird. If you want to use the T-handle you can install a shifter from a '84-92 Firebird or '87-92 Camaro as these use the U-shape attaching clip.

Yeah man, the '91 Camaro it came out of had a 700-R4. Little bit of oxidation, but some steel wool would fix that. How's $20 plus shipping? Here's a pic:

Yah, I have the round shift **** with the button in the middle. I'd like to keep it like that. I don't have the stock clip for it so it won't stay permanently. Usually when I go somewhere I take the entire **** off and put it in the console. Kinda dumb to keep it there, but if it's not there people are less prone to steal the car or **** unless they actually get in and look around. I've had a car stolen before so I'm kinda paranoid about stupid stuff like that. Not too long ago a 3rd gen by my house had it's t-tops stolen so I'm kinda worried. Especially since i have an '82 and alot is specific.
