I have a nice middle-model 3rd-gen. What I saw last Sunday, I thought existed only on paper.
While walking from the parking-spot to the Chinese resturant, I came across a guy parking his own 'Bird. Was an '82 with all of the following options:
All-steel roof
Four-cylinder engine
Steel rims/plastic hub-caps
Stick-shift
Idiot-light-only dash
Two-speed wipers
Heater/ no A.C.
A.M. only radio
Crank windows/manual locks/key-only hatch release
etc, etc............
Yes, it did have a passenger seat, but it was high-back w/o adjustable headrest.
And it still runs

Reminds me of the first Iroc-z I looked at to buy. It was an 89. It had no options at all! No AC, no power, AM radio, 15" rims, L03/5-speed. If it had at least a TPI I might have bought it.

Ninety horses and 3,000+ pounds. Who would have thunk.
My Triumph had a 90 HP/100 foot-pound slant-4, but it weighed 2,500 pounds and the engine got most of its torque at a low 2,500 RPM.
Also, those twin side-draft carbs had tremendous air-flow. The Brits are something else.
