L69 oil sensor attachment

Does anyone have a picture of the oil sensor apparatus on the back of a L69 305 HO? I have an '84 and the tubing for the 2 oil sensors had snapped off the back of the block before I got the car. I'm trying to put it back on now and I'm not sure which way it was turned originally or if I have all the parts. The engine isn't currently in the car so I don't want to take a guess and end up hitting the firewall when the engine goes back in. Actually I am not even sure if it uses the oil passage hole at he top of the block or above the oil filter. I can't find a pick anywhere.

Thanks,

Glen

FOr some reason I remember my LG4 going down...

There should be an elbow.... It should go above the Filter... but then again mine was an 87. If you put on your exhaust manifolds and some of the Y pipe you can probably tell where it should go. Once you get those things on its difficult to manuver but possible. If your going to SLP headers there is plenty of room.

It should not hit the firewall if pointed to the rear, but again I have an 87.

Thanks. That helps. When I got the car the engine was blown and the 2 sensors were just hanging by the wiring harness so I never saw it in its original position. This whole time I was trying to make it go to the oil passage hole at the top of the block. I already have the SLP headers so I will see it it will fit above the oil filter.

Thanks,

Glen

...and that one is on the top as well. Mine has another bend in it for sure because it has an oil sending unit and an oil switch unit on it. With the manifold I have now it can't go straight up like that. I'll probably put an elbow on it and put it where I think it is out of the way and see what happens when the engine goes in.

There is more than one fitting, if its like the TPI setup with 2 sensors. One is a hex head large brass fitting with a 1/8"NPT male at the bottom and 1/8" NPT female on a tapered face of the hex. The face is probably at about 5-10 degrees slant. Then there is a 1" long 1/8" NPT tube that connects to a 1/8" NPT female 90 degree elbow that has another hole in the side of the elbow right at the 90. The side of the elbow connects to the tube. I am pretty sure that from the factory the tube and elbow are one piece. Does that make any sense at all? lol

If I can find the pieces I will take a picture for you otherwise I will have to try and take a picture of whats in the car and that wont be easy.
