rather unusual... Are you sure its the original, or is it a later CD player stuffed in? Check your RPO's

yeah it should be pretty rare, more people in 89 bought them than in 1990, like nobody bought them in 1990 but did in other years

What does the whitebook say as to how many were made in 92?
My 92 has U1C listed in the RPO's but by the time I got it (I'm the third owner) it had a delco tape deck in it.

Wish I would have kept mine from my Formula lol
IF it the stocker cd player it will die a death eventually.
Volume will fade to nothing, cd will get ate and not want to eject than u will be like me and destroy it to get your cd out and realize your car isnt worth a darned dime more cause it has a CD player and any aftermarket head unit is better anyhow lol
Sorry if I'm jaded, just about everyone I have known that had one from 91-92 have all quit working
Was neat to have a factoy 91 cd player, but oh well.
In any year, there are not that many out there, believe it was a little privey on already pricey cars

ACtually what is neat about GM CD players is the mechanisms are just about all interchangable from 89-2000
I went to a junkyard and got a CD player (remote unit) from a 95 Riv, I took the innards and put it in the case for my 90 Riv. It bolted up, BUT it was about 1/16" narrower. My dad had a 98 Cadillac that we swaped out a cd player too and its basically plug in the cd unit.
The nice thing about the newer units is they eject faster, it just about startled me after I did my swap. I know they will go backwards, BUT I doubt it would go forwards because of the difference in width.
If you want you can disassemble the whole unit and eject the disc manually, done that too.

Yeah I have screwed with that too John.
Its just that 5-6 years ago I didnt know that and gut and throw away was far easier lol
Sides the other bane I have found besides the cd player eating things is the volume just fades away as they age lol Whic mine was doing as well
Prolly the amp I would imagine.
I would have kept it if I knew now what I knew than.
Would prolly have even fixed it lol

I have learned that once the CD unit starts skipping, or not playing when its cold its time to just replace the CD player's innards. I had one CD player in my 90 Riv that it would work fine over 50F OR if I continually pushed in the CD it would eventually warm up, and finally work. I replaced the CD unit twice, once with a cd unit from a 92 Olds, and the second time I changed it from the jukyard 95 Riv, thats how I found out that there were different size innards. What was really odd is that although the CD player from the 95 Riv had the same plugs on the back side as my 90 Riv, it would blow a fuse when I tried to plug it into my head unit, so you have to get a CD unit from the same year same style car to replace the whole player.
One thing I have found is the Pre-Amp on the remote CD players is the is quite a bit louder on the CD over the Radio. I have never been able to figure out how to compensate for the CD volume difference.
Oh, while were taling about frankenstining CD players, If you get a head unit from a car that has the remote CD player, you can actually rig up a headphone jack so you can plug in other things like MP3 players and CD players, and no one would know... It beats the heck out of a FM modulator for clarity... done that too
... Its pretty simple, you need a switch to tell the Radio to switch to aux, and you need a 1/8" female jack, a little wire, and get the wiring diagram from the library... If done right you can make it look factory. You can actually play both the CD player and your aux unit at the same time, its anoying to listen to 2 songs at the same time, but it works.

1992 produced 6264 CD players for the Camaro. CDs were still in their infancy in the late 80's and early 90's so not very many were made. CD players in cars were prone to skipping when hitting even the slightest bump. It's amazing how technology has changed.

Actually by changing the cd mechanism to a newer mech you can eliminate alot of the skipping UNLESS you have a real hard riding car like my Formula...

The stock CD player in my 92 I had rebuilt by a certified AC Delco repair company through my local GM dealership. It ran a few hundred $$$ but wass worth it. They replaced all buttons and the entire face along with all of the internals. It hardly ever skips but tends not to take in the CD when really hot. It's been about 50K miles on my car with it since it's rebuild and still working great! It plays all types of CD-R's and RW's too!

My girlfriend had a stock Delco CD deck in her 1994 Lumina Z34. It worked fine... except when we put a CD in and it refused to spit it out.
I still have the deck, with her CD in it lol

Hi Guys,
I have a '91 Z with the factory CD player. It sometimes will accept cd's, depending on its mood, and sometimes it will not. It will do the search for the first track when you slide in the cd and then after a few seconds an error message shows up on the screen and spits the cd out.
I was thinking of replacing the internals with internals of a new cd player that will also play copied cds.
Is this possible? If so, what internals can be used without changing the rest of the functions, buttons of the unit?
Thanks in advance.

I know my CD players would always play the CD-R's that I madennot CD-RW tho...
It sounds like the mech needs to be replaced...
I have to swap out the mech on my wifes 98 Venture van here soon, and I will tell you if it interchanges with the others.
