floor mats?

when we got our T/A, it had new carpet but was sans floor mats. It has been about a month and I am ready to put some floor mats in it. When I search at year one, they offer both rubber/vinyl floor mats and cloth mats. Which did our car come with origininally? I am not TOO hung up on it being 100% original, but i would like to have the correct material at least!

Thanks, Robert

I think most of them came with a carpeted floor mat. However I have seen pics of an original Floormat that was rubber from an earlier 3rd Gen.

my 85 iroc has the origional mats in it still. theyre carpet. so were the ones i ordered for my 91 firebird. i work at a dealership and i thats where i got em. if u go 2 any dealership and ask for em they should be able 2 find em for u. depending on how old your car is u can use ur vin. bring it with u! our place was 90-newer. but..either way u can find em at a dealership. i found them 2 be the best ones to have, even if they are thin and plain. i had rubber ones in a car before and they sucked cuz the bunched over on the passenger side.

The factory floor mats in my '84 T/A are rubber backed carpet with vinyl welting stitched around the outer edge. The front mats have a little color keyed embossed "GM" logo bonded on in the center.

82 and 83 had rubber floor mats that were color keyed to the interior. I don't know about 84. 85 on up was carpet. The carpet from the dealerships today don't match the shape of the originals. You can get better quality elsewhere for about the same price. Make sure whatever you get doesn't have the rubber backing with the spikes. That will wear out your carpet real fast!!

Here's a pic of the factory originals.

When I bought my bird 3 years ago from a collecotr, it had 2 sets from the factory. the carpet set fit to the car floor perfectly and a black rubber set with the firebird logo. Andy

my 83 has rubber backed carpet floor mats, (falling apart at that) I dont believe that they are the orginals cause theres no GM or camaro logo on them, But they match the interior, so im just hopeing that they are the orginals
