Forget the stamped numbers on the axle tube, Mfg info. Check your RPO codes for the Gear ratio that was stock for your car.

The only reason why I am asking is because I have been doing research and I cant seem to find these numbers for the '85? It seems that this rear end might be from another year camaro? Or maybe it's just me? LOL

Can't help with decoding. My 85 IROC (LG4, T-5) had stock 3.23's.

I took off the diff. cover and it is a 7 5/8" rear end with a 3.23, and I believe it is a non-posi, because I didnt see andything in the middle of the carrier except for the 4 little gears and a center pin, there is no spring in the middle, I guess that would make it a non-posi?

But it doesn't show a 9PD code either.
The remaining nembers and letters are date and location codes.

Sounds like someone swapped the rear out. It should be a 3.23, maybe a posi, maybe a open diff. Those codes are

6JH - Std.
6JZ - Posi
6KZ - Posi
6PZ - Posi

Only if its a 1989 9-bolt with the 11.655 rotors & PBR aluminum calipers. All are Limited Slip with these ratios 2:77. 3:27 & 3:45.

I was thinking just to upgrade what i have, so I was wondering....if there are 26 spline axle shafts in there now and a non posi, can I put in 28 spline axle shafts and a posi differential? If so do I have to get different bearing due to the fact that the axles would be thicker? What needs to be done to convert to this? Thanks
