89 Formula LB9 MM5 Owners......
I am trying to piece together a complete picture of my RPO codes/SPID sticker. Mine was M.I.A. (or I pitched it and didn't know it) and I have a few questions before I'm done. I have been reading thru the call-outs of similiar cars, notably a black Formula 350, and a red Formula 350 (both CC1 cars), trying to get an idea for codes which I have left out or weren't representated in the 3rdgenformula RPO listing. I am looking for cars like mine (89,W66,MM5,MK6,LB9) so that I can, hopefully, gather the CORRECT information.
1) the number in the upper right of the SPID, "2FS87"..what does it mean and what is the correct number for our cars?
2) I have an MK6 transmission; my original rear end has been LONG gone, does this RPO give any hint as to what rear gear might have come with the car?
3) D3Y, D9B, E5Z, E9Z (speedo designations) ...those seems to be common on the 350 cars I referenced, can I safely assume they would be on our cars as well?
4) FE2 (suspension) does this correlate to the WS6 RPO at all and should it be on our cars?
5) alternator, I have no idea what amps it was designated as, the K68 is common in my research...our cars too?
6) N64/N65, I'm not sure which of these I have, I know it's small and stuffed in that corner of my "trunk"; the 350's have the N64, I thought i had the N65..any idea?
7) the spring selections, I saw 6ZW,7ZW,8NL,9NL to be common, these transfer to our cars too?
LAST..the W66 option includes LG4/QDZ/N96/WS6/U21 (according to 3rdgenformula)..isn't the LG4 some ancient V8? Also, I read that if my car is a Formula, it will have the W66 option, correct?
EDIT: the RPO for the instrument guages confounds me too, I have "Rally Guages", which is U21, but the other Formulas have UB3. Is U21 an old code or not applicable to my car?
Thanks for reading my novel here........I'll clarify anything if I need to.
Eric

Boss,
My car fits the bill. This is what I have:
1) Not sure what it means. I don't have my sticker in front of me, just a list of RPOs.
2) I have MK6 and my rear end codes are G80 with GM3 (3.45 ratio).
3) Speedo Codes = D5T, D9E, E5Z, E9Z
4) Both FE2 and WS6 are there.
5) Generator = K68, 105 amp
6) N64 Aluminum Spare
7) Think these are all springs: 6DB, 7D8, 8NL, 9NL
Last) My car is W66 and has none of those other five codes.
Now, I'll step aside and let the guys who really know what they're talking about reply!
Good Luck.

All Formula 305 TPI/M5 cars got the 3.42 or 3.45 gear. I have yet to find an exception

Interesting, although now that u mention it, out of 4 I have known of you are right.
TA's I know were not(unless optioned) but the few Form's that were 5 spd cars all had good gears, as well as a couple I checked out for sale.
Nother interesting thought? Did it make the Formula 5 spd G92 cars with the dual exhaust after mid 89? I dont think this is true, cause a friend had a 91 305/5 spd Formula and I "think" it was a single cat car but my memory is failing me here and it was 5-6 years back.

1) the G92 is a camaro option The Firebird equivelant is the R6P THe R6P was used only in 1991 & 1992, it was standard equipment on the GTA & Formula (equiped with the LB9/MM5 and 350 options) other years, and possibly NA on the Trans Am and Firebird, and only an option on the Trans AM in 1991 & 1992.
IIRC,
All GTA's and Formulas should get the performance ratio from 87-92 (equiped with the LB9/MM5 and 350 options)
All GTA's and Formulas seem to have gotten the Dual cats with the 350 & 305/MM5 for the mid 1989-1992 years...
In 1991 there were some GTA's that got the lesser gear for some unknown reason, However it is clearly manditory for:
305/MM5 - Formula and GTA ( Standard R6P ) -- T/A ( Optional R6P )
350 - Formula, T/A and GTA ( Standard R6P )

I have G92 on my TA's and I have seen G92 on the other years of TA's as well.
I just looked at a 1992 1LE TA RPO and it has G92 and no R6P.
I dug up my old RPO info and the 86, 87,88, 89, 91 TA's used for Player's Challenge have G92, but no R6P.
Interesting as well, the 86-87 camaros from players challenge DO NOT have G92, but did have the 3.73 and 3.42 gears. 88-91 Camaros did have G92.
I recall R6P and codes in the R6- R7- were marketing packages similar to the R7U players code. Same type of codes were used for the Vettes as well.
Perhaps the R6P was a package for the GTA?
Mark.

Whats interesting is my 87 Formula, has everything to be considered a G92, but no code.... 3.45 B&W gear etc... the formula 350 has no SPID sheet...
All of the cars that you have listed are 1LE, or equivelant, Could it have been an export thing for Trans Am's as all the cars for The players series were destined for Canada... It may have been something special for the Players and 1LE Trans Am's.
I really do not know, its from what I have seen, your cars are the first ones that I have known of with a G92 option.
The RP6 was standard on GTA's and Formulas, with the 305/M5 and 350 cars, but an option on trans am's according to the GM order sheets.
can you post a pic of your RPO sheet?
John

I recall the RPO sheets on my two cars are not there any longer. I do have papers from GM vintage which I used to document them. You can see the RPO's for my 1988 TA and a 1988 Camaro (both players cars) here:
Players Cars RPO list - 1988
My 1987 is similar to the 1988 but with less options.
Interesting to note in 1987, some, not all, were equiped with the MK6 close ratio T5 (0.74 overdrive vs. 0.63). By 1988, all had this tranny.
Mark.

I think the Trans Am got FE2 standard, and the WS6 as an option, the GTA and Formulas all got WS6.

The more I read the posting here, I am thinking perhaps the Player's car are more one-off than I thought. I figured the cars were just typical optioned cars, but perhaps they are specifically optioned in a way that was not available to the regular Joe. Something to research more on.

It could be that the T/A started with the FE1, have to get some input from some members.
