Nope, 3rd gens never had the L98 Corvette aluminum heads. Thats why people look at me funny when I call a 350 TPI a B2L when its in a 3rd gen. That was the difference between the 2 engines: L98s had aluminum heads, B2Ls (and LB9s for that matter) all had cast-iron heads.

Uh, I guess I gotta go to Willie on this one.....

BUT, what year is your car?? I'm looking through my code book, and I see no L98 listed for ANY year 350 Camaro. The only L-codes listed for '87-'92 are the LG4s, LB9s and L03s. Sure you don't have an LB9?? The code book shows no listing whatsoever for an L98 RPO.

Is it possible Canada had a different RPO system? I wouldn't think so, but can anyone shed some light on this?

I just rechecked my codes and both B2L and L98 are there. Sorry for the confusion. Is this the way it usually is, with both codes representing one engine?

Honestly, I don't have a clue....but I'd like to know the answer to that one as well.

I can back up the two code designation for the iron head TPI 350. My original factory invoice lists these two line items.

B2L 5.7 LITER FI V8 ENGINE $1045.00
L98 5.7 LITER FI V8 ENGINE (no price)

The service parts identification sticker in the center console also lists both codes. I too have always wondered why GM used the dual code designation.

From what I understand, it was the aluminum L98 corvette engine optioned in the F-body BUT you must get the B2L option. This RPO code swapped out the real L98 for the B2L heads. So basically the SPID sheet is saying you have an L98 short block with B2L heads.

Uh uh... the Corvette L98 was a two-bolt main as well. So was the LT1. But the LT4 was 4-bolts, from what I remember.
