Geoff, the SE was an option on the base FBird it gave you a Trans-Am interior, gauges, wheels basically a sporty appearance Pkg. in later years you could of had the TransAm hood and Tail lights. But keep in mind it was NOT a Trans Am it was a sports apearance pkg.on the base FBird somewhat of what the RS is to the Camaro.

mont1le(Leo),
in the later years (1985-1986) that you talk about, the Firebird SE did not quite share the Trans Am hood. These cars (the Firebird SE) had a hood similar to the Trans Am. The Firebird SE had two "Trans Am" Style vents on the bottom of the hood, whereas the Trans Am had these, as well as two thin vents at the top of the hood (Thus, the Trans Am had four vents on the hood). Most people never noticed.

Hope this helps,

George
