Is this a rare option?
I saw an ad in the classified section (i think) and the seller was mentioning that the cushioned leg rest on the console is fairly rare? Is this true? I have one on my T/A and thought it would be cool if at least one option on my car is sort of rare! (aside from the orig. 5 speed.)
Thanks

That option was available from 1983-84. Its fairly common on '84 models. My '84 T/A has one, my friends '84 T/A has one, and many '84's I've seen in the salvage yards have them.

Hello,
I was the one who had it posted and I would think it is quite RARE because I have seen them in pictures and have never seen one in person until I found one. For only being available on certain cars and for only 2 years I would think it is quite rare (in mint condition anyway) I know this option was not available on Camaro's which makes it even more rare. If you can find that many in JY's pick them up and send them to me, I got all kinds of offers and settled for a complete black seat belt set plus $40, pretty rare?
I think so

I am going to have to jump in and say that it is not all that rare. It was used on 83 DT500 T/A's and 84's only. So that is why it is uncommon. But with around 50,000 T/A's being built in 84. I wouldnt call it rare.
Just about every 84 T/A I have seen has had it.

That, in itself would reduce its numbers, and possiblibly make it more of a rare item.
Is there anyway, that could be verified?
I'd like to know, as all the 84s I've seen them in, were in fact, a factory WS6 car.
I know this has been debated here before, but I for one, think it's a unique item for an early third gen T/A to have, and thank George for suppling me with a mint one, for my car

Dang nice car dude,
I would have to add to that, how many 83 &84's are there still around? How many of these pads can be found in either mint or near mint condition? I would say that that makes the rarity of this item even more realistic.
BTW is that interior Tan/Beechwood?

The build sheet calls it Doeskin, but the seats are out of a 95 Formula. So I don't know what the name of the color would be for them but, I was very happy, with how well they matched.

Leon, I am not certain if the pad was included with WS6. Like I said, most 84's I have seen have had it. I will look in my 84 Merchandiser Book this afternoon and see if it mentions the leg pad

Re: Is this a rare option?
Anyone know what kinda prices these go for? I have a wtb ad up and was offered a really nice one. I think the price is fair but I just want to be sure. Couldn't find any ads anywhere else on the web for one for reference.

Re: Is this a rare option?
Dan, I'll agree with you, that ONLY the DT500 cars in 83 had them, but I was under the impression that the ONLY 84s with WS6, had the knee pad.
That, in itself would reduce its numbers, and possiblibly make it more of a rare item.
Is there anyway, that could be verified?

Re: Is this a rare option?
Been selling '82-84 parts for years and they are RARE !! Since they were only on the '83 DT500's and 84 cars.I haven't had one in YEARS !!!!!!
I say $100-150 is a fair price depending on condition

Re: Is this a rare option?
I think it is rare to find them in good condition. I've seen them in the yards on parts cars and they are trashed. I bought a center console sight unseen from a salvage yard last year from an 84 TA and it came with the pad, that was a nice bonus!

Re: Is this a rare option?
I wonder if it had to do with another option, a previous poster suggested with WS6, which apparently does not be the case, but I wonder if it had to do with a particular interior option like the Custom (mid) or Deluxe interior...

There are about six holes drilled into the side of the console and it attaches with plastic trees.

Re: Is this a rare option?
It's a foam piece glued on a flat metal piece that has plastic push in pins. Then the vinyl is glued over it, but only to the back metal piece.
The vinyl seem to shrink over time, I can't put it back on mine, it's too small. I've seen many on pictures that have the same problem. I will make a new one in leather.

I have one on my 84. Originally when I got the car it wasn't there, found one through a member here on the web site and I love it! Keeps my knee from getting sore when driving!

Re: Is this a rare option?
Depends on where you are I guess. They were common when new, but as time passes I see fewer and fewer... I found one in an LG4/5 speed Base 'Bird that is in my parts hoards.. was minty, mint. I originally thought they were a manual trans thing until I saw one in a very original automatic T/A awhile back... They are really just a piece of grain-textured pleather, a hunk of foam, and a plastic backing...
Im sure it was tied to the interior trim group... part of the NP5 trim group perhaps?
