Just wondering if anyone knows the number of the ASC cars made? (the sixth digit in there VIN is a 2)
"I have done some research and I found some info that said that hardtops were sent to ASC to make them convertibles. and my car has the ASC logo on the square panel where
the defrost switch was is on the coupes(located under the cig. lighter)
Whether it makes a difference or not the top is not power it is manual."
Quote from owner of the car.

Car: 89 Camaro RS Convertible

Factory total numbers are around 28,183. Remember ASC also did do custom jobs for "special customers" in previous years as well as the years the convertible was produced.
According to my sources the sixth digit is a 3 for convertibles and 2 for hatchback coupes.
All tops are manual like yours and mine.

Does anyone know if ASC installed power sunroofs for custom factory orders? My '87 RS has one and it looks like it was professionally (factory) installed. I've yet to see any other 3rdgens with a sunroof.

Can't answer for ASC, but there are plenty of sunroof companies that do great work on power sunroofs. I don't think GM offered any, though.

Re: 1987 IROC Convertible ASC model....
the ZF was an ASC creation that had a sunroof and a woodgrain dash.
ASC made around 400 Camaro Convertible conversions from 1985 - 1987 for Chevrolet dealers, and 600 1986 - 1989 Firebirds for Pontiac Dealers.
Unlike other conversions, such as Matrix, hi-line, autoform and other aftermarket conversions, parts are identical to the factory models... Arguably ASC conversion cars do have advantages. You could simply go to a dealership and order your parts, Firebird or Camaro...
Sometimes the aftermarket ASC convertibles actually got nicer parts, than the factory models, I have read about electric pull downs for the tonneau & such.

Re: 1987 IROC Convertible ASC model....
IrocTopless is correct, ASC only converted T-Top cars. T-top cars were ideal to convert due to slightly better structural characteristics in the floor. Also a special garnishment would not have to be made as in the Riviera, Eldorado, Sunbird and Cavalier convertibles as the sheet metal was stamped out for the weather seal by the windshield.
ALL 3rd and 4th Gen's started life as T-top cars and were converted as per ASC design, regardless of the 2 or 3 in the VIN. The 3rd Gens were done off site at ASC, the 4th Gens were moved to another plant (in Canada) so that the convertible conversion was done on site, the parts were supplied by ASC.

About this controversy factory sunroofs. I have an 92 25th z28 myself and called local dealer about vin and whether or not was factory sunroof and they said yes they had some with factory sunroofs . very rare though.no numbers to speak of for pro numbers.

A sun roof wasn't a factory option on 1982-92 f-bodies. You won't find an RPO code for a sun roof in any of the normal books, or resources. However, if you wanted a sun roof, the dealer could send the car out before delivery, have someplace cut a hole and install an aftermarket sun roof. Likewise, you could buy sun roof kits from JCWhitney and the like, and install them yourself.

Re: 1987 IROC Convertible ASC model....
To my knowledge, GM never installed a manually operated pop-up sunroof in any car. Since the mid 70's When GM cut holes in a roof they were a powered MOON ROOF, or T-tops, or a convertible. Actually when GM put the hole in the top they actually stamped the sheet-metal special instead of simply cutting a hole in the roof. The easy way to tell whether or not GM did the actual work would be by how it was installed... Look at the opening around the cutout, If there is a black trim piece that attaches to the roof of the car, then it is 99% chance it is aftermarket. However if you open the top and see that it is painted body color inside the opening then it would be a factory moon roof.
Side note... When the guy that designed the Moon roof was asked why he called it a moon roof, he said, "because you could stand up and moon the guy behind you." Its a local lore actually...
In retrospect I want to think that the Fiero may have had a manual pop-up roof option... The only car I can think of that may have come from the factory with it... Of course it might have been aftermarket.

Yep... They pop up, or they can be removed completely and stored under the "hood". The storage compartment actually has molded supports so the glass sunroof can be set in the compartment. Later Fiero's got fancy and some had a bag sort of like our ttops, and then the whole deal set in the storage compartment under the hood.
